To fill or not to fill ... WWYD

Recommended Posts

I was banded 12/17, and have had two fills for a total of 3 cc in a 10 cc band. My loss has been slow but not excessively so, and my surgeon is pretty conservative with fills. I'm really having no restriction, and a moderate amount of satiety after meals. I expect that if I did go in for a fill, he would add another 1 cc. I would definitely call, except that my family is going on vacation in one month (woohoo, Disney!!) I'm not worried about gaining weight while there, I didn't the last time we went and I pretty much ate everything in sight. We will have a meal plan again; I'll be sharing my meal with my 9 year old so that my 2 year old can have her child's meal. I just don't want to be miserable with that overfull/stuck feeling while there, or worried that I will feel like that. Probably if I had a fill in the next week or so, I'd be adjusted to it by the time we left, right?

I should mention - losing superfast has never been my goal, slow and steady is working well for me. That said though, I'm feeling like I have this fabulous tool and I'm not using it at all currently, and it WOULD be nice to drop a few more pounds before going. I'm 8 lbs from a big milestone and it would be nice to hit that before we go.

WWYD? Fill now or wait until we get back?

That is a tough one. I've been too tight before and haven't had the greatest time on vacation. Depending on how much you can currently eat that would be the factor. If you can eat 1 cup I would get one. If you can only eat 1/2 cup I would not.

I'm struggling with this issue as well. I leave for France April 25th. I definitely do not have enough restriction, but do I risk being too tight while out of the country?

My better judgement says don't get a fill but my appetite says get one. I hate to "waste" the whole month with no weight loss because that's what I think will happen if I don't get a fill.

I'm still leaning towards no fill and have an appt for the Monday after I get back. Once another week passes there will be no choice but to wait until I get back.

Let me know what you decide.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
