When did you take off your steri strips or bandages?

Recommended Posts

I am talking about the ones covering the insicions

Most posts I read said things like "wait till they fall off"

Mine were half on and half off and getting caught on my shirts.

My doctors office said I could take them off in the shower.

I did this morning verrrrry slowly...

when did you remove yours?

You're supposed to wait until they fall off. With my band surgery they never did and had to be pulled off when I had my staples removed. With my last surgery, I started taking them off myself around day 4 or 5. They were on loose and not really holding anything anyway, and several of them were half off, and I couldn't stand the itching. So off came the steristrips, and I went with bandaids, gauze and neosporin for a few days.

Day 3.

I was itching so bad and couldn't help but scratch. After removing them, the itching went away.

My largest incision opened...yuck. Went to the drugstore for the steristrips/butterfly... I started itching again...it was the adhesive.

So I just bandaided it.

It's fine ... been almost a year.

Bandages over steri strips came off 3 days after surgery. The strips started peeling off after 4-5 days and finally just pulled them off after about 10 days - they weren't doing much by then anyway...

Believe mine came off around day 7 in the shower. Dr said if they're still on by day 10, I could remove....

Sounds like my situation was the same as yours. Mine came off in the shower very slowly when the initially partialy came off by themselves.

I had glue and steri strips. I took off the strips ten days after and the glue is still working it's way off my skin.

My steri-stripes from my port replacemnt just came off. Now I have a small area on one side opening. I had it covered with sterile gauze and a bandaid butterfly closure.......but at the doctor today, he took them off and told me to leave it open to air. It is oozing and gross, I can hardly stand to leave it uncovered. He didn't really even look and see that it is opening, I just told him. He seemed to think it would heal if I left it opened to air. Anyone else have this problem?

I had that problem with my belly button incision when I had my gallbladder out. Believe me it will heal when left out to the air. u just might have more of a scar there when it does heal. Just keep an eye on it for infection. I hope when I have my surgery done mine heal ok.

:confused2:I had my band placed on Thurs the 5th. My small incisions are covered with small round bandaids, (they used glue) and my port incesion is covered with a large Water tight bandage that has this gauze stuff in the middle..but I have had a little drainage because I can see it on the bandaid --little blood and some small discoloration where you can tell liquid has come out.....and I am thinking it needs to come off so it doesn't get infected...but when I tried to take it off today...HOLY cow it was hurting and sticking...so I chose to leave it alone until I posted to see if anyone had any advice. I just peeked at it and it's open...NASTY but no redness, no oozing now, it doesn't smell, not hot, no pain...just looks gross. Also on my papers it said not to use neosporin for possible allergic reactions? Has anyone else heard about this?

I don't know about neosporin, but i would definitely not leave your wound untreated. That is pretty dangerous. At least put some anti bacterial/septic that you know you are not allergic to. take bandage off. clean AROUND the wound with iodine and put a light layer of anti-bacterial/septic on and in it. Cover it up with a clean large band aid. Contact doctor if it gets worse. Keep us posted !

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
