Advice you can take or leave, but please listen..

Recommended Posts

I just want/need to share how I feel lately about things.

First, I do appreciate that newbies need advice and seek the knowlage of take others. I was once there! BUT what bothers me about it is that people it over MEDICAL advice. That is not the ideal thing to do, and can be downright dangerous.

Something to remember just because someone has done something THEMSELVES doesn't make it

1. Scientific, so therefore NOT proven. A study of just 1 is not a study

2. Safe, most importantly some people have done things their Dr would never approve and pass this on as something you should do.

3. The best thing for YOUR body, everyone is entirely different. How your body reacts my be not only different, but life threatening.

I always give a disclaimer when someone asks me how I do things that you should always talk to your Dr. Some people here do not and pass off advice that is less than medically sound. Sometimes down right dangerous.

I am just asking that anyone looking for help also consider that MOST of us on here are NOT Dr's. All we can tell you is OUR experience and what worked for us. Please do not take everything into heart as gospel truth. It is ok to ask questions but always talk to your Dr before changing anything in your bandster life. I encourage eveyone to talk and learn but please think about what people are saying!

This also goes for those who think that just because a few are having problems with their band that you will as well. The band is not a life complicating thing. I am sorry for those who do have problems with it, but they aren't the norm. IF the band really was bad it wouldn't be on the market. Again people posting that the band isn't working, they are sick, whatever it is again is JUST their experience, it doesn't mean you will be that way as well.

This is just something I had to get off my chest, I hope it doesn't fall onto deaf ears. AND I am not calling anyone out, so please do not throw stones at me. It is something that is particularly bothering me that I feel the need to address....again just my opinions!

It is good advice. People soak things up on the internet like sponges, and somehow that processing of soaking it up translates it to hard medical fact. And then the sponges squeeze themselves out to others and pretty soon you have a wildfire of misinformation that's potentially harming people.

Another good rule of thumb -- if it worries you enough to ask it here, and could immediately effect your health, livelihood, etc., then -- why are you asking us? Just go call doc/surg/whatever.

EXACATLY.

Thank all of you for agreeing....I am just at the point I am scared for people, and I think someone needed to say it!

The problem is - the people who soak up that type of information would never in a million years put 2 + 2 together.

At least we can hope to help at least even one person....

I agree. I am fairly new here and haven't been banded yet. I've been reading EVERYTHING on these boards. I do however take everything I read that pertains to myself and ask my doctor about them. Like everyone else said in this thread, this should be a "brainstorming" forum, not a "rules to live by" forum.

I think it's sad it has to be said. Everyone's adults, it's no different from anything else in life... if you have a serious issue, you wouldn't rely on a friend of a friend to tell you the solution..

You'd think, but this is where connection to normal reality stops, I guess. Think back a little while ago when we would be innundated with threads asking *us* whether or not someone should leave their spouse. Who values the opinion of total strangers in that situation? A surprisingly large number of people, I guess!

I think most people that ask questions like that and other questions better suited for a professional is the "embarrassment" factor. Some people find it easier to post semi anonymously on message boards, rather then talk to someone in person. I don't think its right but thats what alot of people do.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
