After two and 1/2 years of waking up at 4:15 5 mornings a week to work out, I have some much needed and much deserved help in my weight battle. My date will be April 2nd. Boy am I nervous. I've been reading posts for about 3 weeks and I've finally decided to join. I am just wondering, after my surgery, how long will it take before I know it was a good idea?

Congratulations, how much weight would you like to lose? The first time you can tie your shoes w/o passing out, walk up a flight of stairs w/o having the "big one" or keeling over from a heat stroke, find your favorite shirt or pants too big, have someone ask you if you've cut your hair, (and you'll have many others)....then you'll be glad you got your band!

Congrats!! I think you'll know when you get on the scale two month after the big day & (if you stuck to your guns) You should be down on average about - realistically-if you followed the 2 week pre-op liquid stage - Also followed the liquid post-op stage & than the mushie stage-- and of course factoring in the guy thing --ABOUT 35 + pds!!

That would tell me I did the right thing! Of course I am no doctor - no coach & no fortune teller... But I think you are going to be GREAT!!!!! I also think it could be alot more than just 35- so good luck- listen to your doctor & talk with a dietian.

I was so certain that it was a good idea BEFORE I had the surgery, and had done so much research, that I KNEW I was going to feel crappy for a couple of weeks and so I never second-guessed my decision. I am TERRIFIED of needles and medical procedures, and there was NEVER a doubt in my mind that I had done the absolutely, very best thing for myself, ever. Well, that and the 6 months of compulsive overeating therapy I'd had 6 months BEFORE that. So I think my mind was primed for the changes a lot more than many others.

Plus I'd watched my sister go through the RnY, so I knew at least I wouldn't be feeling THAT bad... :)

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. I will say I am a little scared.

Two years ago I started out at 375 and got down to 295. People would ask me what was different about me, I would wink and say "viagra".

Ok, I am back from Mexico with a lap band. You guys were telling me it was pretty easy, and it was. I am a little soar, but I feel better everyday. It is Wednesday night now, but I had the operation on Saturday night, and I went shopping about 2:00pm on Sunday. I could only put up with for a little while, but according to my wife I put up with shopping "longer than I would have normally." I have had only 2 operation in my 36 years, one being in the U.S. , at a local hospital owned by a big corp, and this one. I was by far impressed with the skill, and service that I received in Mexico. And the doctors just keep talking to you and telling you stuff. They kinda hang around, like your unemployed uncle or something, just waiting for you to ask their opinion on a matter. It really was different than here in the U.S. The attitude of the doctor was one of service instead of medical omnipotence.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
