restriction 3 weeks post op?

Wheetsin and Steph...I'll stick around and thanks for the encouragement. I'm all for hearing the good, the bad and the ugly. I want info from the experience of others that have been down this road ahead of me. I have the ability to sort out good verses bad advice. I just have a real concern about people giving info that could actually plant a seed in someone's mind about the "tricks" of starving the body to the point of going to ER and living months in misery just to lose pounds. I believe close to 100% of us are on this journey to get our health back. I was told at my informational seminar to expect a slow loss with the lapband and slow loss is much better for our system.

I like my food and my plan is to continue to eat food and not have it end up in the sink. I think I'd rather be a touch hungry rather than be miserable with far too tight restriction. I'll wait for my weight loss the healthy way.

By the way Steph, it took me six months to get my weight off. I feel better every day.

Sitting here typing and thinking FOUR months in my brain and typed in six months....took my 4 months to lose my weight. Not that it matter but if you read my signature you would think I was a bit of a liar

Oh ah I gotcha. Yeah, the "advice" posted is not really what I would consider sound advice. I thought you were referring more to -- now that you've read that, you're scared to get banded because you might end up too tight at some point.

My approach was always - I'd rather be a little too loose, and let my willpower fill the gap, than be too tight and risk everything that can bring. I was too tight once, bit too much of a fill, and it's not a good place to be. And something's not right upstairs if you live like that and don't seek medical help for it.

A friend of mine is several years out with her band, and on a good day she can get Water down. She's gone from a soze 34+ to a baggy size 0. I am not exaggerating. We keep telling her -- go to your surgeon... and she keeps saying "No, he'll want to take it out or open it up and I'll get fat again." She's having the signs that I most strongly associate with unfortunate RNYers - losing hair, teeth... nails are like straw, sallow complexion... I can't think of anyone who would convince me that's not a serious disorder.

exactly ... its intention is not to restrict so much that you cannot eat. its that you cannot eat a lot.

you'll do fine. dont leave here cause a few people abuse their bands.

Thanks...:)

PLease don't think I posted those because I agree with her. I am firmly against using your band like that. Firmly against. I just wanted to show that there is no "key" to breaking a plateau other than hard work and determination. Boredline anorexia/bulemia is NOT the way to do it.

You did us all a favor by bringing those posts to our attention. It never crossed my mind that you were endorsing such crap advice. Good girl, BabyGirl

I agree with Losing. I have no problems with not eating, just not eating too much!

I have been a slow loser. I never lost the 2 lbs a week every week like

I was told I was.

I was too tight for one month, and it is just not worth it. Sure I lost weight that month, but I was too afraid of complications down the road.

Now I have the perfect fill, and I really don't care how long it takes me. I can eat anything I want to eat, in small portions, as long as I chew well. In my opinion, that's how the band is supposed to work.

You know, I think this is exactly the right attitude to have. Good for you, Denise!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
