Looking for a surgeon in Boston

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had their lapband procedure done at the Beth Israel in Boston? I am at the very beginning of this process and mighty scared. If you had any of the MD's there, can you please share your experience? Thank you:wub:

I have known Dr. George Blackburn from my years of working at the Deaconess Hospital (years ago!) and he would be my recommendation. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. Definitely know his name as a weight-loss doc, but don't know if he's involved in a bariatric practice, but I'll research him. Thanks again.

I have an appt with Dr. Lautz at Brigham and Womens. I am a registered nurse and did extensive research on bariatric surgeons and decided upon this guy. In doing my research, I came across posts from previous patients of his and that he was fabulous. I also contacted the State Board Of Medical Licensure and he is clean as a whistle, has never had any infractions or lawsuits brought against him. He is board certified (this is important) and is the director of the bariatric department at BW. I see him for my first appt in May and am quite comfortable with who I have selected...hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you so much for responding. I've never heard of him and will research him. Also never considered checking with the Board of Medical Licensure. Good idea! Good luck with your journey. And thank you again.

I was banded on March 17th 08 by Dr. Jones at Beth Israel. They have a very complete program, and I felt/feel well cared for. Their team really operates as a team and everyone is very responsive.

They now have their own department in the hospital, and even send their patients to a certain floor where the nurses are familar with the surgery.

Dr. George Blackburn is affiliated with the program, I think as an advisor. If I am correct, he is not a surgeon.

I have congestive heart failure, and they were very careful to make sure I was a good candidate for surgery.

2 weeks after, and I'm satisfied.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just attended an informational meeting at the BI with Dr. Schneider in attendance (the other half of the surg. team) and I was very impressed. Thank you for indicating that you feel cared for; no one wants to feel drop-kicked after this process. Best of luck and my very best wishes to you on your journey. You're several steps ahead of me. I am very encouraged. lilby:sleep:

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
