How soon to consult?

Recommended Posts

I am getting close to goal, and I am realizing that I do have quite a bit of excess skin that is not going away and it really bothers me. I am at least a year away from having the time or money to have any PS, but I was wondering how soon I should consult a plastic surgeon and how long is the process from consult to surgery? Any advice is welcomed.

I think I am going to need a Tummy Tuck, upper arm tuck/reduction, and a breast augmentation (this one is optional, but I would really like to have it done).

WOW, you look amazing!!! :frown:

most PS quotes are good for no more than a year. so, maybe when you are about 1/2 way saved up??

good luck, this part of the journey is a wild ride!!

The quote I received was good for 90 days. That said, there is no reason why you can't go now and meet with a few to find some one you like and to get an idea of price, as well as have all your questions answered so you know while you are saving up and can be fully prepared once you get there. The surgeon I went to see was able to fit me in the following month for surgery if I wanted, so it can happen relatively quickly once you are ready.

I am not sure where you live, but here in Ontario Canada the PS charge at least 100 bucks for a consult. For that reason I am waiting until I am ready to have the surgery. In the meantime I am talking to people and doing research on all the docs in my area. Since you are at least a year from surgery, who knows a new technique may be developed by then, or a fab PS may move to your city.

I am 30 lbs from goal and I am already ready for PS. She is going to do a Tummy Tuck first followed by thigh lift and my arms. If you are close to goal I would say now is the time!

Thanks for all your advice. I could possibly have the time for surgery and recovery as early as december, so I am definitely going to start researching the docs in my area.

I got some amazing news today that I am inheriting a large amount of money from my step grandfathers estate, so the expense of the PS is no longer a concern and I should have enough left over to pay off my student loans.

So now it is all a matter of time! I definitely want to lose a little more before surgery though.

Thanks again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
