Can I eat steak and lobster before my first fill?

Recommended Posts

Indigo,

I have not been banded yet so I'm still thinking like an overweight person. That's why I was asking if i could eat steak or lobster before my first fill or do most people have restriction before their first fill.

If you are on solids go for it. Most likely you will not be able to finish both steak and lobster though. For me lobster goes down a lot easier. Have fun!

Each person's reaction to the band can be so different but I would say that the chances are great that you should at least be able to enjoy the lobster and most likely the steak as well.

In fact Lobster is now one of my most favorite foods to order out. It's not so costly when all I can eat is one tail (if that) and a couple bites of mashed potatoes and broccoli off my hubby's plate. The only down side has been that I've actually been full enough to share some of my lobster with my 4 year old a few times and now he keeps asking if he can order lobster to! Talk about having a silver spoon in his mouth. How many preschoolers do you know that beg to order anything other than chicken fingers or hot dogs and fries, much less lobster?

As everyone has mentioned just take extremely small bites, chew well and don't feel guilty about dipping it in a little butter.:tongue_smilie:

oooh i love lobster - maine lobsters were my families easter diner...YUM!!!, and i didn't hesitate w/the butter, because they have to go hand in hand.

dh and i do a boil (turkey fryer works great for this) once a month be it lobster or king crab legs - corn niblets - finger potatos & lots of old bay seasoning. it's our monthly treat, ....

I have no problem with steak, as long as it isn't a cheap cut. Filet mignon goes down very well for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
