I was reading a post on yahoo that lapbands need to be replaced after ten years, does anyone know if this is true??

Wow!

No, Inamed, makers of the Lapband system claim this appliance is made to last a human's lifetime.

But, being the concious consumer.... how do we know that's really true?

We'd have to look outside the USA becuase the band hasn't been FDA approved here as long as it has in other parts of the world.

So that would be international news..not here in the US. Of course, we'd find out about it.

I'm curius, too about the band...and how long it lasts. I'm on maintenance and although I'll never see my band doc again, unless something goes wrong.... in the back of my mind I wonder.

Do Australians use the Inamed Lapband System, or do they have another manufacturer? And how long has it been in use in Australia? (I'm not Australian but if you don't mind I'd like to keep an eye on this thread as I'd like to know, too)

I wouldn't worry, after all you can't do anything to stop it if it was to need replacing so enjoy, you can always get a new one anyway

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
