Dr. Carter is great! Becky was my "go to" person in his office and I am less than pleased with her. I feel stupid everytime I ask a question. I find myself looking to this website for answers.

I used Dr. Carter and have done very well. His bed side manner is great and he has an awesome personality. As far as his staff they are not paid to be patient service reps so love lost, but on occasion I'll run into one at the store or local mall and they are always polite and call me by name.

Dr. Carter did my banding on 5/13/08 and he was wonderful... I actually was scared to death right before the surgery and he came over rubbed my cheek and calmed me down. I am finding myself right now able to eat without restriction which concerns me. But I work in insurance and understand that you have a 90 day post op period that your insurance will not pay for the fill also. That is also one reason he does not do it until the 91 day. He would end of having to write off the balance. Any suggestions for how to curb my hunger?

The first 3 months were the hardest for me too. But it's the beginning of a new file and new habits need to be developed. I continued (as with my pre op diet) to eat around 1200CALs a day and began working out like I have never before. It's been 6 months now and I've had 3 fills. I'm down 57 pounds, but the truth is I have worked for it. I have to eat healthy and work out. My best friend had the surgery a month before me and she hasn't been as successful because she doesn't work out and lots of processed foods go down quickly like chips. There is a great website called sparkpeople.com that can help you track calories and has tons of cool features and it's free. Check it out and don't get discouraged - this is the beginning of a new you!

I was just banded by Dr. Carter on 12/10/2008. I thought he was nice but was dissapointed and surprised when I went for my post - op appt and didn't get to see him but one of the office workers. I am trying to accept that I have to wait 8 more weeks for my first fill.

I was so upset when I learned I would have to waite 8 weeks for a fill. Dr. Carter is conservative with the fills- a little at a time it seams. My surgery date was January 17th, 2008 and I've lost 93lbs in the last year. So I can't complain. The method to his madness is justified becuase he's doing what's best for your body and your long term success. I would be happy to talk to you more if you have questions. I have lots to share:biggrin:.

i will give you my lap band story. i had a choice of doctors to choose from. since he was closest to where i live i used dr carter. two days later i get a bad report from a friend of a friend. they just didnt like him. i think ok well i will wait and see. two days before my surgery i meet him. seems ok .. i asked him about pain medication. he told me not to worry about it he would send some home with me the day of the surgery. i came out of the surgery in so much pain. now granted i do not have a high threshold for pain. they give me two shots or morphein before i go home. my husband takes me home and goes to get my prescriptions filled. by 6 pm that night i am writhing in pain. i cant sit stand or anything else i am crying and in so much pain. my husband calls the doctor. his service answers needless to say we left 3 messages that night and he never returned my call. i was taking the 10 mg toradal he gave me and tylenol nothing was working. i couldnt relax i couldnt releive the pain it was so BAD. finally around 10 oclock that night my neighbor brought over a hydrocone. i took that and before midnight i could move i relaxed and the pain was relieved. i had a fitfull night and called the doctor again that morning....twice... he had a nurse from the hospital call me back and tell me he wasnt going to give me any other pain meds and to put an ice pack on it. i was crying uncontrollably to the nurse that i was in pain and she said i am so sorry. so i called family members and pooled our resources and got me 5 hydrocodone. i was finally able to get up walk and do things for myself. thank you family. thats not all. i go in for my post op visit. no doctor i see his assistant. i thought maybe someone might want to look at my incisions. nope they didnt. i have one incision that stll has a thread sticking out of it. she told me to cut it off myself. ok me and my husband tried this and were not successful. she also told me i had to wait 90 days for a fill and i should lose 30 lbs in 90 days. sheez if i could do that i would need the band. i also was told that i should have lost 12 lbs in my 3 weeks post op. i lost 4. dont use dr carter. he may be a fine surgeon but my experience has not been a good one and right now i wouldnt recommend lapband to anyone because of my experience with him

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
