Cerrin, that is exactly why i just can't go to a gym. I have a huge, expensive weight system in my house. Not that its ever been used more than a few times since i got it 2 years ago. But i'm not self conscious to workout in front of anyone, not even in front of hubby. Even the one time when i had gotten myself in half way decent shape, i would literally drive 10 miles outside of town to run where there was no one to see me.

Now that i am banded i am going to use the weights and my daughter and i are going to ride bikes, even though i'm self conscious about the bike riding.

Well the thing is it is not the hot guys or the little girls that say things. They are actualy very nice to me. It is the old men and little old ladies they want to tell me what to do. Crazy.

The Super HOT guys their are actualy very nice and a bit protective over me. I think it is super funny.

A group of teenage boys came in after school to lift weights and I think they were talking about me. But the next thing I knew the big guys surrounded them and was having a small "talk" with them about manners and how to treat a lady. No mater what you think she looks like. I was so moved I almost cried. Then they made the boys apologise to me one by one.

I was very touched that people I dont really know would stick up for me like that. But I was told later that they consider me an honerary sister. Because I am in there as much if not more then they are. I get looked after. These guys also help me when I think I am lifting wrong they are there to help me do it right. Or encourage me to try a new machiene.

I wouldnt give up going to the gym for anything.

PLUS I get to hang out with the super HOT guys.

Oh yess yesss yes! I love the gym and people usually don't bother me, the people who "look" like they work out all the time don't look twice at me. but their are times that I am getting DOWN on this bicycle, or the elipticall (trying), or the treadmill and I will look up and a little old lady is looking at my with this "how cute" expression and mouths "good job" like the fat girl who is working out needs special encouragement. I usually just smile and get over it but its annoying.

Funny story. My friend and I both go to the gym and she is about 260 (used to be 310, lost it all no band) so she is listening to her music, going as hard as she can on the treadmill. When she opens her eyes their is this woman in front of the treadmill with an open mouth. Vanessa takes out her earphones and stops the machine and the woman screams, loudly, "You inspire me, if you can do it I know I can do it." It took forever for me to convince her to go back to the gym.

Freakin old people they mean well...but DAMN I wish they would just mind their own business some times. Especially at the gym.

I got my 3rd fill today. and their was a lady in there that had the band 3 years ago. She looked great! almost too thin. lol She let me feel her port. lol It is really noticable on her. lol But she is really small now. It really made me feel like this will work. I just need the proper restriction and I too can get there.

Oh man, I'd have needed convincing if that happened to me too to be able to go back. Some people really need to think before opening their traps.

Well I'm proud of you all. I enjoyed reading the stories and I can understand where you are coming from about the weight loss. People are starting to notice that I've lost a few pounds and I guess its because I'm in that 14/16 size so I don't necessarily have to to to Lane Bryant. My mom even talks about me losing because I can shop in regular stores (mind you no one knows about me being banded only my husband and my kids). I didn't tell people about the band for the same reasons people think that you cheat but I am working hard at this. I haven't had progress in a couple of months but I've been lazy and eating meat with gravy so as of last week I stopped that and now I'm just doing smoothies, Protein and veggies and so the scale moved. I will be glad when I see the numbers that all of you see and that my sisters whom I see often realize that I am losing weight. They don't say anything now but I can't wait until the day they do.

It just goes to show you that people want to have something to talk about good or bad but in our heart of hearts we know we are doing good because we've been banded which means we've taken a positive step to correct what has been bothering us so kudos to each and every one of us!:purplebananna:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
