First Fill, YIPPEE!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I just had my first fill on Friday and I am totally jazzed. Things went really well and I was able to see what was going on, where my band was and watched the swallow test, SO cool, I thought it was just great to really see my band in action!

I have a 10cc band and he put in 4 ccs (nothing was left in it at surgery). I was totally feeling the restriction and that was really cool. I was hardly hungry in the afternoon on friday and over the weekend I did some Tomato Soup and refried Beans. I also started on a high Protein Shake blended with some fruit to help get my Protein in.

So, when you all have had fills, how long were you back to liquids only, mushies, etc....

I think I have also dropped a few more pounds since Friday too! :mad2:

Woohoo, grats on the first fill going well. Sounds like you are well on your way and congrats on the few more lbs since Fri.

My doc after my fill had me do Clear Liquids the remainder of that day - day two was full liquids (cream Soups, yogurt etc), day three mushies, day four resume eating but start with soft foods.

Thanks Ang! When I left the hospital on Friday, they gave me the dietary restrictions which had me on liquids only for a week! I thought that was really nuts! So, I decided to progress myself to mushies Saturday afternoon and did just fine. I am not eating "regular" foods yet, but I am not sure I could talk liquids only for a whole week. I am thinking the my doc is trying to be super cautious, so I am taking it easy, but exploring my options too.

Have a great day!

Hi Alish,

I had one fill also. My doctor's regimen is liquids for rest of day after fill and one more day after after that. Then 2 days of mushies and then onto solid food. I follow what he says exactly because I don't want to cause any band slippage. Good Luck. By the way I had 3ccs put in my 10cc band and I have not noticed any restriction. So Good for you.

Thanks for the note elle, I certainly don't want my band to slip so I am being careful about what I eat and I have been only really eating really soft mushies since Saturday afternoon. I'm glad I do feel some restriction, but I wonder how long it will last, my restriction following the surgery didn't last too long and I was able to eat any foods. Honestly, I do hope I don't lose any options completely, but if I do, I also hope that I stop wanting those foods too!

Thanks for the info!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
