backed out of bypass now wanting lap band

Recommended Posts

I was scheduled for gastric bypass, and the day before the surgery I backed out. My insurance only paid for gastric bypass at the time, so I felt that was my only choice. NOw they will pay for the lapband also. I already was preapproved for gastric bypasss, it took me about two months to get preapproved and get all my 5 years of weights. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone else had this same circumstance. Do you think it will take as long since I already have some documentation at ( gastric bypass ) the other doctor.

The other surgery date was over a year and a half ago.

Let me know

I think most of the same requirements are involved. Unless you lost massive weight on your own, you will likely just have more documentation of your inability to lose the weight.

I would bet it is simpler, since you have the documentation prior already gathered in one place.

Many insurances will require the cardio tests, psyche evaluations, sleep studies, and other assorted things---blood work etc. I am sure all of that will have to be done over, to be current, but that shouldn't be an issue!

Hang out, let us know what you find out!!!

Welcome to LBT!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
