April 06 Bandsters, how are we doing?

Recommended Posts

I can't believe we're coming up on our three year!! I started going to support groups recently...yes, it took me a while, but I think it's helping talking face to face with other people who have been banded, even if I'm always the one whose been banded the longest. Hope you're all doing well!

Wow, this is freaky! I did not even realise it's April now - and it just popped into my head to see if this site is still up and running (unlike me! haha). And here u all are - cool!

It's so great to see so many of you doing well. I never could get restriction - and i am now the same weight i was when i started - so disappointed. I has such high hopes for myself.

I am trying to find another surgeon near home as my dr is so far - not a good enough excuse i know - but very difficult to maintain a relationship.

I really wanna give this one more try. The "thing" is there now and there to stay - so how do i get back on the horse?

Guess that's why i am here today...poking my head in...searching...

Great work u guys!!

Hey Julie, Great to hear from you. Yes the 23rd will be four years for me and I still love my band. Go up and down ten pounds from my goal but thats my fault. lol. I have'nt been on board to much lately. I have had three deaths in my family since Nov. 09. One being my precious daughter on 11/07. I feel like I am just now coming back to realty a little. Hope you are doing great with your band. And the same to all the rest of us April 06 bandsters.

Love Sallyjo:smile:

Wow so many memories of our first year when we practically lived on this forum. I miss all of you and think of you often. I had a rough year 2 and year 3 and gained back most of the 75 I lost my first year. I am back on track and am only 4 lbs away from 100lbs lost.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Hey to all 4-06 bandsters.Four years almost three months for me . I often think of all of you that were on this website and what fun we had and when I was new how all the ones before us helped us out. The secert pals we used to have from all over the country. I did reach my goal and still never go up over ten pounds and then back down. Oh yeah the cruise a bunch of us took together and my ------band so tight it almose ruined by whole cruise and I called my doctor when we docked in Galveston and he called me back with-in five min. and called the ER at the nearest hospital in Houston and I said take it all out. The ER doc ask me what was the best part of my cruise and I told him it would have been the food but I could'nt eat. My band has never been able to hold very much at all. I only have 1cc now and really need about another half. It has been sometime since I have had one.Never had any serious problems with my band. Used to be anywhere from three- to four months after a fill it would get so tight( cruise ) that I would have to have some taken out Okay enough out of me. Molly you stay with it,as we always knew it will work if we work at it.

And yes Kat I am going to ans. your so sweet message to me.

Love to all

I went and got a fill. Faced my surgeons office and admitted that I had backslid a lot and that I needed help. They were supportive and understanding and gave me a fill. That was last November and the fill is still going strong. I still have some bad habits and I'm working on them. The hardest part was going in to my doctor's office about it, after that it was a little easier.

195 weight when I went in for surgery
199 weight when I got home for surgery
193.2 weight 4 days after surgery
If the inflammation from surgery is resolved, I've lost 1.8lbs in 4 days.

Had surgery last Thursday, so I've been home for 2 days as of 15 minutes ago.  I weighed more when I got discharged than when I went in despite only having eaten a Jello cup in 2 days, but I put that down to inflammation. This morning I weighed a little less than I went in.  I sneezed last night and my fiance saw me cry for the first time, and we've been together 16 years. I took my multivitamin first thing this morning and threw up. Kept it down after drinking 4oz protein shake. Yogurt gives me diarrhea, water hurts more than the fuller liquids, and my stomach is turning somersaults and I think I'm hungry because I'm used to interpreting it that way, but I have no desire to eat.
My biggest problem is that I am used to being busy.  I own a business and I've been getting active on these boards, and when I'm on my laptop I forget to drink. Will I hurt myself if I drink faster?  I've been scheduling 4oz every 30 minutes with breaks before and after meals.  Is it too fast to drink 4 oz in 15 min to get caught up on what I missed?

      tl:dr at bottom,
I could use some advice. I went to see my dietician today (not a bariatric surgery dietician, I can explain why I am seeing her if you want to know). She knows I am going to have weight loss surgery as long as I hit the goal weight my insurance told me I need to be at. I have to be at the goal weight by June 24, 2023, in order for my insurance to pay for my surgery.
I had a weigh in the doctor's office a couple of days ago and weighed 301, my scale at home said 302. However, on the same day, the scale at a friend's house said 313.
I knew I had this Dietician appointment two days later and I knew she would weigh me. I continued to weigh myself at home (after getting new batteries) and I was at 302 then 299 and today at home I weighed 303, right before my appointment, when I got to her office I was weighed and it said 313.
I am concerned about what to believe since the doctor's office and my scale show similar numbers. I also bought a new scale today and it said 313.
The Dietician told me I needed to eat more protein, which honestly I struggle with. she said I needed 150 grams!!  I said are you kidding? that seems like a lot.  She used my weight to come up with this number.
Should I really be trying to eat enough protein for a 300-lb person or should I be eating protein for a goal-weight person (mine is 170)?
also, my clothing is loose like I lost the 20 lbs mine and the doctor's scale shows, and not 10 lbs like everyone else's scale shows. Also, I have always naturally been more muscular even when I was 120 lbs and did not eat any protein aside from what is in plants.
tl:dr- should I be eating enough protein to support a 300lb person or should I be eating protein for a "normal" sized person? AND should I trust the Doctors scale more so than the Dietician's scale?

I had the same issue. My scale was 6 pounds heavier than my bariatric doctor's. My scale agreed with my nutritionist's scale. I asked my bariatric doctor to have her scale recalibrated and she said it was a really expensive scale, so she trusted it. So, when it comes down to it, the scale that matters isn't the one that's right, it's the one that determines if you get your surgery or not. I would ask her when it was last calibrated and see if she will calibrate it. The difference is I Iost weight so well on the lifestyle change diet that I had to stop losing weight or risk not getting the surgery.

        Hi!

I would love to be your accountability partner. I had the sleeve in 2021, so maybe I can give you some insights.
