Started to train for Marathon.

Recommended Posts

Well its been a year since surgery now, and I have already ran in two half marathons, so its now time to train for the full marathon. I have up'd my training to 28 miles per week in running. I still need to loose twenty more pounds to be under the "clydesdale" rating for the marathon. I ran the half in 2:02 which placed me in the top 15% of the runners. So if I can finish the full marathon in a good time, I may qualify for the NY and/or Boston marathon which I will participate in if I can. I can run 15 miles right now without stopping or walking, so if I can get up to 20 miles without walking or stopping than I should be able to do the full.

For anyone who runs I suggest the nike plus system with the Ipod. It is a great way to track you success and chart your progress. Since March 4th I have run 44 miles at an 8:13/pace.

Awesome job Pete! You must be so proud of yourself!

Can you explain how the nike system works? I assume you have to have nike shoes? I'm quite attached to my asics, having loved and worn out 3 pairs of Kayanos. But I sure would love something that can help me keep my distances up.

Congrats Pete! What an accomplishment!

I have Nike+ and it rocks.

You have a sensor that goes into your shoe, and a receiver that goes onto your ipod.

I am pretty sure you can get keepers to attach to the laces of other shoes to hold the sensor in.

You hit the centre button on the ipod, and it tells you your current pace, distance run, and calories burned. I couldn't live without it.

Edit to add, it also sends your total for that run to nikeplus.com, and it tracks your totals. You can create and set goals for yourself. You can compare your best runs to your current run, and it tracks all sorts of other neat stuff.

I tried to calibrate mine on the treadmill and it failed miserably. It has to be calibrated over a known distance because treadmills can be out, and your stride isn't the same either.

I would try again over a known distance.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
