Didn't need a fill the first time

Recommended Posts

I was banded in Dec. '07, I went for my first fill about 6 weeks after the surgery. The MD interviewed me and decided that I didn't need a fill (not the surgeon). I was losing weight and I have been having problems with PB (productive burping). So, it is now 10 weeks and I have lost 30 lbs. without a fill, do you think I should go for one and see what happens? I still have problems eating too fast and not chewing enough. But I am happy with my weight loss. Any tips for my PB problems. I'm worried that a fill will make it worse!!!

You only need to go for a fill if you are getting hungry too soon after eating an appropriate bandster meal, and are not losing weight.

Or if you are just eating way too much and not losing, and want to restrict your eating a bit.

Sounds like you are doing fine. No point asking for trouble if you are losing weight steadily still.

I was banded on 1-7-08 and chose not to have a fill my first appointment also. I am about at the same wieght loss, 33 lbs. I did get my first fill last Fri. though. I have not had any problems with pb's or anything getting stuck. I too am ok with my loss at this point. I am a little hungry but am just used to eating a small amount from before my fill. I want to go very slow and conservative with my fills. I don't want to be at the point where I can't eat any bread or a slice of pizza every now and then. If I committ to exercise 5-6 days a week and keep my calories at 1000 I think it should be pretty steady loss for awhile. Sounds like you may want to chew bettter and sloooow down. I know old habits are hard to break. Keep up the good work.

I was banded Dec 20 2007 & had my flrst fill today. I did find out however, that I had 2ccs added during surgery. At my appointment in Feb, my doc was happy with my steady weight loss & said to wait another 2 months for a fill unless weight loss slows or hunger increases....this began recently, so I got a 2cc fill today. He said liquids only today & tommorrow, then mushies, etc, etc.

I was Banded on Feb. 15/08 at the Toronto Lap Band Centre.

I felt restriction since the surgery, once on solids, everytime I

tried to eat anything solid. After the 2nd or 3rd bite I would

feel a blockage, great pain and hard to catch my breath,

and this was before my first fill. Once I caught my breath I would

drink some Water and slowly I would feel a lump passing through

to my stomach. Most people say when things are stuck and they

drink Water the stuck food projectiles out or they PB.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I went for my first fill yesterday and the nurse told me that since

I was already restricted she only gave me 1/2 cc, I have a 10 cc band.

I lost 15 lbs before sugery and 10 lbs in 4 weeks since surgery.

At this point I am happy with my weight loss, but I'm not sure if

I should get a fill in 2 weeks when I am scheduled for another fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
