All my doc requires is a 2 day full liquid diet. And I hear some that require none and some that have to do it for two weeks? WHy are they all so differnt?

Good question, my Dr. requires 4 weeks all together of liquid pre-op. 2 weeks liquid, 2weeks low cal(as I had been doing with the nutritionist for months) then the 2 weeks right before surgery back to liquids! Why such variations across the country?

Very good question...mine is strictly 1 week pre-op liquids only. I find it odd that it varies so much. Has anyone found an answer to this?

I have to be on liquids only 3days. I asked why and from what I understand it has to do with your BMI. The lower it is the less time for liquids and of course the higher your BMI is the longer you have to be on liquids befor your surgery. They said that the reason for the liquid diet is so that your liver will shrink from its enlarged state to make more room for your surgeon to move around "in there". Hope this helps, good luck

I think it depends on the doctors/group. Our group of doctors requires only that you do 2 days pre-op of Clear Liquids. They believe that this is enough time to get your liver smaller. I think they also believe that it is a short enough time that anyone should be able to do it.

I am having my surgery on Monday and my dr has only required that I do a diet for 1 week.. it actually isnt even an all liquid diet..

I can have 2 servings of the following: egg, slice toast, bagel, piece of small fruit or yogurt for Breakfast.. then a Protein drink for lunch.. then for dinner 4-6 oz of meat with green vegetable and then another Protein Drink before bed.. I have to drink lots of Water..

U know that was one of my questions, but it never got answered. Just like bthin4me said. I also think the lesser the belly you have the better as well. I am waiting on my approval also, but when i did meet with the Dr. he said that after the procedure he isn't going to put me on any restrictions so i guess everyone is diffrent. Please keep me updated on how everything goes for you...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
