Ports setting off metal detectors?

Recommended Posts

Really stupid question I am sure.. I thought the ports were made of silcon and or plastic...

I heard a rumor somewhere that it will set off the detectors at airports.. Please tell me this isn't true

I have heard this, too. But I think I read not the walk through ones, but if they use a "Wand" on you, it might be detected. I carry a wallet card with me that says I have a band.

Haven't flown yet, will the end of this month, tho'

That's funny. I have a metal plate with screws in my ankle and that's never set one off. Once I set a walk-though one off. So they ran the wand over me, but my heavy necklace was the only thing that showed up.

Phew thanks! I am going to be taking a trip to Hawaii with a group of people on the other side of the family... and I didn't plan on announcing to them about my band so that would of been really embarassing.

Just flew from Baltimore to Vegas and back last week...no problems. I was concerned prior to headed out that my band would get tight and I would have difficulty eating because I was reading that on the boards. I didn't have any problems with my band either. I guess everyone is different. Good luck and have a great trip!

LOL!!!!!!

No metal in the ports........

BUT flying has made my band swell........ also stress and my TOM.... all make me tighter.

Have fun!

Never has happened...ever. All around the world, all through the U.S. In Europe they even do extra wanding for "fun" and it never goes off as they pass it over my stomach.

The Ports DO have titanium in them--at least the original lap band does (not sure about the Realize band.) IT's on the back of the port--the side that sits against the muscle wall. I sat in the surgeon's office three days ago and saw their sample ones.

He said that some people do set off the metal detector, but not always. He also said they are MRI safe because titanium isn't magnetic.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
