Please help me find a shake that tastes good.

Recommended Posts

I would like to know what brands of liquid shakes people are using that they like. I had an Atkins today and I thought I would throw it up. It was terrible. There is no way I could drink 5 of them a day for 2 weeks. Thank you for any suggestions.

My surgeon only uses the medifast shakes that you get online. I ordered the ready to drink (RTD) chocolate ones and love them... still order them.

I have tried a ton of them and always fall back to the SlimFast shakes. BUT, I put the entire can in the blender (Magic Bullet), add 3-4 cubes of ice and either a tad of the Hazelnut sugar free Syrup or All Natural Peanut Butter. Makes them have a totally different consistency and spices up the flavor.

I tried a bunch too. I am a costco nut so I got their EAS Bag, vanilla powder. Not bad, especially if you mix fruit in it. But for convenience I got the Muscle Milk Light, also at Costco. I didn't think I would like the chocolate milk, but I do! It's great to take to work too. My doctor approved both. Slim Fast, I was told was high in sugar and carbs. I was told to look for at least 15 grams of Protein, 0 carbs and 0 sugar if possible. I only wish they would let you sample them at the stores before committing to such a large bag or container. Trader Joes has some good ones too. Good Luck!

I have tried so many kinds but keep returning to the one listed above. Had to consume 4 to 6 of those for two weeks preop. Mix in blender with 1 cup skim milk or 1% milk with 4 ice cubes. Add 1 tsp of vanilla to the vanilla. Like the chocolate and vanilla but don't really like the strawberry. It's hard finding one that you like and drink daily.

wishing you the best.

The ones at Trader Joes mentioned above are called Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes. Come in 21g Protein and 35g. Website promotes as sports drink, and can says not for weight loss, but Brigham Womens Hospital has it on their approved list of Protein Drinks. It is 160-170 cal, little to no fat, 2g Fiber, 1 sugar. Doesn't have a lot of Vitamins like Atkins, but my dietician has me taking a multi, B-12 sublingual, and Calcium, so I don't worry about it. It has 70% of calcium and 2% Iron, that is about it. I think it tastes better than Atkins, plus has more protein. If you don't have a Trader Joe's nearby go to Worldwide Sport Nutrition for store locator. Just remember they promote it as a workout drink only.

I use Unjury. The chocolate tastes like chocolate milk and the strawberry is very good if you mix it with lemonade (I put one scoop of strawberry unjury and 1 pkg of crystal light lemonade and add 16 ounces of water). The chocolate is really good if you add a splash of coconut sugar free Syrup.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
