My Rant, future LPB Gal

Recommended Posts

I think it's been said in a roundabout way, but the bottom line is, if you're not lying.. and you're eating within your BMR, active, etc.. and you believe it's 'genetics' causing you to be overweight, the band will not do anything for you. The band restricts what you eat, thus restricting caloric intake. What you're describing is an anomoly. That despite doing things that maintain a healthy weight, you have gained weight. The band will not fix whatever is wrong with your body that is causing it not to function right.

You need to talk to other doctors before you think about the band, because based on what you said, the band will not do anything for you.

I am not going to auger about this, nor go back and forth. It seems that some people are missing the point. My point is this. I believe that some people regardless of eating habits good or bad, and have no medical issues that are found. And puts on weight like its nothing, but has to go on a very low cal diet and has to work out very hard in order to keep the weight off, and has a family that is prone to being over weight if not kept in check, genetics do play a role. You just cant simply dismiss genetics. I feel there is many roles that play into someone being over weight. Many roles, not just poor eating habits. Because a skinny person male or female can have poor eating habits and stay thin. That is what I am saying. It's just simply mind boggling that how different people are and for many different reasons put on weight or lose weight! You cant just say, hey its poor eating habits! I don't agree with that entirely!

The lap band I am sure will work for me. Simply why I think it will, one I am not an emotional eater, I don't eat past being full. Did I ever say I eat healthy and low cals all the time, no! I did not! The 1-2 slices of pizza I obviously can't even have because it will go straight to my hips! I have come to terms with that.I am not putting all my blame on my genetics, but I believe that genetics play in the role of my struggle to keep weight off! That is what I am saying!

I can lose weight, but I have to stay way below 1200 cals and work out 3-6times a week in order to see results! Weight watchers, 1500-2000 cals don't allow me to lose weight in the 1-3pds week, like they promise! So yes my metabolism works, but doesn't work like I would like it too! When I have lost weight and did well at it, was when I was on phen fen and ephedrine (not at the same time) When I would be able to eat very little and then I would drop weight. But once I resumed to eating anything above 1500 cals then the weight steadily creped back on.

There is nothing wrong with me that medical science is aware of. I have had countless blood tests, and yes I can lose weight. What I was ranting about in the first place is that I am frustrated with "my body" that my appetite doesn't match on the rate my body burns food. To make clearly I do not eat out everyday (maybe 1-2 times a week) I don't sit in front of the tv and mindlessly eat) I will admit I am a convenient eater, what does that mean, I don't care if its fattening or healthy whatever is easy to make and quick. That was my flaw in my eating habits. I know that! And quiet aware of it. So now all that I buy convenient foods that are healthy. Everyone in my household has to eat what I eat, whether they like it or not!

With me, its just coming to terms that I wont be able to ever even once and while indulge anything rich , fattening and good! lol..

I understand yall's advice, and appreciate it, but I know me and getting to know me every well and how my body works. It's like this, nobody gives you an instruction manual on how your unique body works. You have to figure out what works for you!!! And yes area's genetics's, the rate your metabolism burns, activity level, what you eat & drink, medical etc all determines on your body weight and health and of course male verses female! That is what I am saying. I am dropping this, I have no need to defend myself anymore:eek:, and yes I feel in some way I am being attacked. It is hard from someone to read the post and come to a conclusion that well there must be someone wrong with you and the lap band wont work.

I have since I have started my 1200 cal diet have lost 6pds! Thats been one week! LOL so lots of fat free sugar free Jello, pudding, green tea with splenda, and water! And of course working out!

I was just throwing a fit, because I knew the only that would work is a very low cal diet! Its not that I was going on a 5000 cal a day diet to 1200, I was going from 4 small meals a day granted not always healthy meals to 3small meals that are healthy! I was ranting because it sucks, but I have to do it forever!

My hearts go out to the ones that are in the same boat as I am!

Eeek. please don't take that the wrong way. I don't have any thoughts personally on whether it's genetics or not, maybe me putting it in ' ' made it sound like I'm patronizing.. didn't mean to, maybe it is genes.

I was just hoping to help you realize, before you get banded.. that if in fact you are low-cal and exercising, the band is not gonna do anything beyond that. It will help you eat low-cal. It's not going to fix a thyroid problem, or a genetic problem, etc.

I didn't mean to make you feel defensive, I just am afraid if you get banded, you won't be doing anything different.. so it's not going to help you lose weight. That's all.

Good luck

It WILL however, help you to feel less hungry on a lower calorie diet, if that is what is required to lose weight! Being hungry all the time is a real drag!! In that respect I do believe the band will help you.

I am not going to auger about this, nor go back and forth. [...] I am dropping this, I have no need to defend myself anymoreeek.gif, and yes I feel in some way I am being attacked.
Well, this is Rants 'n Raves, and attacking ideas is what we're all about (your ideas were attacked, you personally were not). If you feel that you personally were attacked, then report it. We don't jive on personal attacks. We do jive on idea attacks. That's the purpose of this forum.

Were you looking for support, or someone to pat you on the back and tell you that yes, even though you're already eating a low-carloie diet, the band will help you lose more weight? Yes, you're an anomoly and somehow defy the rules of physiology?

If you don't want people to challenge what you're saying, or to provide other possibilities, or to contradict your information... then you might request (me or any other mod would be happy to do it) that your thread be moved to one of the support areas, rather than keeping it in our area designated as an "off-topc debate area".

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
