Pre-banding Feed Frenzy....

Recommended Posts

I know I'm not alone.....but DAMN....since I got back from my last pre op appointment yesterday I have been on a total feeding frenzy....even the dogs look afraid.

I suppose part of it is nervous eating, part of it is knowing I start the clear liquid phase in two days.......

Hmmmmmmmmm, a box of girl scout Cookies, prime rib, pop tarts....mostly just crap.....

I had lost six pounds in the two weeks between my doctor's appointments.....but I'll bet I've gained it TODAY....ugh

I've gained 15 poinds in 6 months. It's a struggle. Sorry to hear you have gained weight but you can stick to your diet and do it.

hamburger, pizza, french fries, diet coke. 1st day pre op liquid diet. Oh man. I feel the stress, and recently realized I am a stress eater. My mom is having brain surgery the day before my lap band. Very nervous about it all. This was not planned in anyway. Somehow it just happened. My mom is very supportive, and said we could have neighboring hospital beds to complain about our pains. Mine of course being minor in comparison.

IT's normal. I did it...a lot of us did it. I called it the "last supper syndrome".

At the time I thought I would be glad I did it... eating all the foods that I may never be able to eat again in the quantity that I could.

However, in all honesty, I am not glad I did it. It was weight I gained, that I ended up having to lose. I often think of the true weight I would be right now if I didn't have to take off those extra 20lbs.

I am doing the same thing...it is definietly the last supper syndrome....it's terrible! I have gained at least 10 pounds in about 2 months . My surgery is in 5 days on Friday the 14th. I have been eating cheesecake, Bagels, we went out to a big dinner the other night, a lot of snadwiches...it has been ridiculous. My surgeon does not require a pre-op diet, but I almost wish he did. I am trying to calm down now for the next 5 days...I am looking forward to loosing but can't beleive that I have let myself eat this way in the last several months.

Hi,

I heard going on the liquid pre op diet is hard, head aches, grochy, etc so I was afraid, and have been eating a mostly liquid diet prior to the pre op. The liquid diet starts on tuesday and I've lost 12 pds. already. I was told many people loose 15 pds on pre op diet. so I'll be down 20 to 25 pds before the surgery. Then any ab surgery makes you feel bad so plan on another 10 pds. If I am down 35 pds prior to the lap band kicking in..........

The week before starting preop diet, I told dh "The eat is ON".

LOL

Luckily I didn't eat enough to gain any weight, but not from lack of trying!

I'm LOL while reading these because I think I'm experiencing Last Supper Syndrome and I haven't even rcvd ins approval or a surgery date yet! I think since the initial consult with doc and beginning of all the medical testing/visits I've been telling myself, "This may be the last 5 scoop sundae I can have from Friendly's" before eating worse then ever!! I'm making a new effort starting today to follow a much more reasonable eating plan so if I don't get the health ins green light I won't have put myself 20lbs deeper in the hole of morbid obesity (no pun intended) :smile2:

I think we can all agree that we have a love affair with food. But being banded will a least keep my amounts down. I have 1 more week to start my pre op liquids. Food right now seems like my love is going to the moon and I feel the reckless abandon or bittersweet ending of mindless snacking.

See, this was even mentioned by the team at the hospital, they said "we don't recommend it officially but it is a good way to help the grieving process. They said it is all part of the process and to not be shocked if we catch ourself eating everything but the kitchen sink prior to surgery.

So, you are not alone in this, almost everyone will go through it or has gone through it.

Now I don't feel alone! I am approved for my surgery and have an appt. with my surgeon scheduled for 3/25 (hopefully surgery scheduled in April). I have been eating everything!! I have actually gained 10# since completing my 6month diet. I was beginning to doubt myself........but it sounds like this is not an "uncommon" reaction.

I was coming on the boards tonight to confess my eating habits for today.... I am so glad I came across this thread....I know now I am not alone. The day started good with a slim fast for Breakfast but now at the end of the night I have put away four hostess cupcakes and two cinnamon rolls :)........sugar and carbs are my weakness!

I did great all day long with the pre op diet, until I got off work at 10pm, and I was starving for solid food. ::cringes:: I ate a double quarter pounder with cheese - not something I normally do even prior to dieting. I just couldn't help myself and now I feel like shit. My friends and co workers are being great about helping me out and sticking to my liquid diet, but then on my way home is when I can't control it. I just don't know why I do it. Glad I found this site and I am not alone. I will do better tomorrow, I just have to...there is no other way around it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
