I understand why the Dr's would want to stop soda but does anyone have an idea about caffeine? I was a diet pepsi addict until last weekend when I quit cold turkey in preparation for my surgery. I did really good but I have very little energy and it would be nice to have some form of caffeine, even if in tea. Thanks for the replys.

I've read many threads about caffine not being allowed, but my nutritionist says coffee and tea are fine. At first, I guess you want to use your limited stoma space for the most nutritious foods, since liquids wash things through. Also, I've read about alcohol affecting banders faster and I wonder if this is true for caffine. I don't drink much soda at all, so giving it up isnt an issue for me. I have also read about people drinking "flat" soda OK.

I think the main issue is that caffeine is a diuretic an could raise the chances of dehydration. You are already going to have touble getting all your liquids in at first so they want to assure you do not get dehydrated. Most docs will allow caffeine after you demonstrate that you are getting a good amount of fluids in. I started drinking caffinated teas after about a month or so, but I really don't drink that much of it and don't miss it that much. after about a week or so off caffeine you won't even think about it.

Good Luck,

Chris

Call your surgeon's office and ask why you can't have caffeinated coffee or tea. My only restriction was no soda and it was advised to avoid alcohol. Welcome!

My Dr. told me that caffine is a stomach irritant and one cup of weak tea a day would be ok. this would allow the stomach to heal and keep the band in place.

You didn't say whether or not your doctor restricted caffeine... mine did not. You should just follow his guidelines whatever they are. That being said, one of the many benefits of being banded is the reduction in my caffeine consumption. I now have my morning coffee then drink Propel the rest of the day! This is a person who used to drink coffee, tea and colas allllllll day long! Guess what else!? My teeth are not nearly stained as much as they used to be. I am a smoker and I always assumed it was the cigs that did it. Come to find out it was the Diet Coke!!!:crying:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
