hey all,

I had to go to the emergency room and was on IV. I was extremely dehydrated. I have to go back to the hospital again because nothing is staying down still. I will be admitted again to the hospital by tomorrow morning. Lately I have been thinking to myself....what did I do? This is an awful experience.

Jan 08,

have you had a fill yet? If not, did your surgeon give you an fill when your band went in? If yes for either of these questions, have you gone in for an unfill?

I'm so glad I found this! I spent 9 hours in the E.R. yesterday with the same issue. I couldn't get anything down and I became severely dehydrated. That was really, really awful. I should have come here and tried warm liquid first!! :rolleyes2:

Last wednesday I got a fill and felt fine that night, the following morning I couldn't keep down liquids at all. I vomited all day.

Friday I didn't even attempt to drink in the morning (since that is when I am tightest), then that afternoon I was doing fine with liquids, so I tried some mushy food, but then I began vomiting again. After vomiting, I must have gotten swollen and it was painful to get liquids down again.

So, the last two days I didn't eat or drink in the morning, and sipped liquids all afternoon.

I am now feeling so much better, I don't think I need to go in for an unfill.

I also had a fill last wednesday and I am going back to the doctor tomorrow for an unfill. I did liquids wed, thur and fri. I did mushies sat & sun. I haven't vomitted anything but the feeling is very uncomfortable when I drink. Right now I am eating tuna fish and it is going down slowly. Sometimes when I drink Water I feel like I have a lump in my throat. Last night I woke up coughing and felt like I was choking on my saliva and that was the last straw! I thought I would wait it out and see if the swelling goes down but after that coughing last night I am going for an unfill. It is so important to drink so you don't get dehydrated. Yesterday I drank about 60 ounces of Water but it was uncomfortable most of the time.

I haven't felt any discomfort today, but I have been really careful because I'm sure the vomiting had caused me to get too tight and I don't want to experience that again.

lisainbohemia, if you're still feeling discomfort than I doubt it will get any better as any swelling from the fill should have gone down by now.

I am so sick and tired of vomiting. It is the worst part of the lap-band. I love how I look, hate getting up to throw up so many times!

Lap Band Problems

Why are you vomiting all the time? You are not supposed to vomit with the lapband. Have you told your Dr?

So sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. When the vomiting happened to me, I waited three weeks before I told my Dr. He was very upset and removed most of the Fluid in my band. He explained how I could lose the band due to slipping and or damage my throat. I hope you get better soon you are probably very swollen and will have to take it very easy for a week or so. Good luck.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
