How long will this last?

Recommended Posts

I was banded this morning just curious if anyone else's throat swelled up when you ate and how long that lasted. It's pretty uncomfortable. Also how long did the gas last for everyone? I tried to get up and walk but my incisions are too sore for that. Hope it goes away on it's own.

Thanks! :confused2:

My understanding is that they put an oxygen hose down your throat (they did me) while you are out, hence the sore throat. Mine lasted about 4 days, throat lozenzes help. I was up and walking about 4 hours after though although today (1 week later) I still get tired easily while walking. My doctor suggest Malox and walking for the gas and it lasted 2 - 3 days.

I had my surgery last Friday and they put a patch behind my ear to help deter nausea. Anyway, I felt like I couldn't breathe. Honestly, I almost had a panic attack. The patch made me jittery so instead of coming home right after surgery and sleeping I was completely restless. I was groggy but everytime I tried to sleep I would jerk awake in a minute. My throat felt totally swollen and hurt terribly. I got permission to remove the patch and in about 2 hours the effects had worn off and I felt 100% better. My throat hurt for two days due to the tube they put there during surgery, but I could take liquid tylenol and that helped a ton!

I am now on day 5 and I feel great. I slept on my stomach last night...??? No pain whatsoever. I hope you feel better soon, too!!!

My throat was pretty uncomfortable for the first few days and I also had a huge sore in my mouth. sugar free popsicles really helped with the discomfort. As far as gas pains, I really only had gas pains the night after my surgery. I slept with a heating pad everynight for a week anyway so that might have helped dissolve some of the gas. Hang in there, you'll be feeling better before you know it!

thanks for the advice! i feel like a total wuss. everyone i talked to that had it done said they didn't even need their pain meds and were fine the next day and that's not the case with me at all. i'm incredibly sore. oh and i called the doctor and he said warm rather than cold liquids would help my throat and it really does.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
