working out for men

Recommended Posts

I'm 32 years old and wondering what monst of the guys here do during workout? I'm mostly doing 30min Biking, some light reps on biceps, tricepts, and chest, then jogging 25-30min jogging.

I know it dont seem much but I was only working out 2 week before but started to plateau so now i'm working out 4-5 times a week which got me going on losing again.

Are most of you guys doing mostly cardio or lifting weight?

Here is what I do:

Cardio 7 mornings a week. If I work that day, I do btwn 50 and 65 minutes on the elliptical machine keeping my HR in the weight loss area. On my off days, I run for 35-45 minutes @ 5.5 mph on the treadmill, then off to the elliptical again for another hour.

4 nights a week I lift. 2 upper body and 2 lower body. I do circuit training w/3 circuits each night. Upper body is 8 exercises working all parts. Lower body is 6 exercises, again working all muscles.

Wish I was as commited as Ceradad is ! I try to do cardio 5-6 days a week which consists of at min. 45+ minutes on the treadmill. I lift weights (upper body only these days) around 3-4 days a week for 30 minutes at at a time doing various exercises. Hard fiding time - I get up at 5am as it is to go to the gym...

Ceradad how tall are you and what is your goal weight? im 5-7 and sometimes I think 180 is kinda high still... but i guess ill worry about that when i get there

I'm at 245 right now and wasnt going to gym that often but this past 2 weeks I have been hitting it everyday except weekend thats been sauna time and pool. and I been starting to like it and seeing my weight going down again.

Right now ill stick with bike and treadmill for now but ill slowly work in elliptical machine.... that thing kills my legs so fast.

Thanks for info

ant-I am 6'3". 240 is probably still a little too high. But, originally, I set a goal for somewhere btwn 250 and 270. Now, I'm 10 lbs from that range. I reset it awhile ago seeing how well I've been doing.

Btw, I would consider pool time as working out. Unless you are floating around drinking margaritas:biggrin:, you are exercising.

Ceradad - keep at it and soon enough you will be there. I also have an initial goal of 240 which will get my BMI just under 30, but do not intend to stop there. I'm 6'3'' (I swear I used to be 6'4" but I must be shrinking) and supposedly my ideal body weight is 180. Not sure that is realistic....

Sounds like we have a similar build. I was at 230 when I got married and was very comfortable. I agree with your methodology - set realistic short term goals and re-evaluate when you get there...

I know about the shrinking problem Mike. I swear I've shrunk some as well.

You appear to be going gang busters so far. Keep up the great work! It's seeing results like that that keep me motivated. I don't want to fall behind.

I've got 3-4 days of cardio and 3 days of lifting, but that's all at the moment. I'd love to get myself on a soccer team or something. Meh. We'll see.

How are you guys setting your goal weights?

I believe that a healthy weight for me - I'm 6'2" - would be about 200 lbs, but that seems lower than the numbers you guys are aiming for. Am I being too optimistic?

I do cardio first then lift upper body 3 days and lower 2 days. I normally spend about 1.5 hours in the gym.

I have been running on the treadmill but when I first started was only walking.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
