Issues with the band. x-X

Recommended Posts

I've been having real problems. I can't handle anything too solid, I think I've been on semi-permanent mushies for a few weeks now, and I can't help vomiting even then. It's sort of 'tip out' vomiting from the esophagus, if that makes sense, not 'force it out of the stomach' vomiting.

But I've still only lost 4kgs in the past few months. REALLY frustated by this.

-sigh- So I've been avoiding the surgeon because he'll look at the lack of weight loss and tighten the band (and when it was at that tightness last time, I lost 10kgs in under a week because I couldn't eat anything that wasn't liqad) and I've been avoiding the doctor because she'll send me to the surgeon anyway.

But I'm tempted to go to the surgeon anyway and get it tightened if only to start loosing weight again. Even if it does mean I go to full liquid diet.

So that's why I've been avoiding here!

Ses, the kind of problem you're having doesn't call for a tightening but it may very well call for an adjustment. You should call your doctor and BE HONEST about the issues. Your doctor can't help you if you're not completely up front with him or her.

You may find that you LOSE weight if you band is made a bit looser. You'll be able to take in more Protein and a bit more roughage (veggies and fruits), and your body will be in better balance. It is never a good idea to 'struggle it out' with a too-tight band or an irritated esophagus, because these situations are unlikely to resolve on their own.

Please call your doctor and don't be afraid of an unfill. It can really help and you'll be happier and healthier. Good luck!!

You really need to have an adjustment... You are simply too tight.. Been there done that.. If you can't get solids down, you are going to be hungrier because the food is just gonna slip through faster... call your Doctor please...

THey are all correct. Being too tight will slow weightloss just as much as being too loose. If your doc says to tighten the band, tell him NO. This is your body...not his/hers. But you have to do something, because this is not healthy for you. Good luck

I'd say if you're sick and your doctor tightens you again, you need a different doctor. That goes against EVERYTHING the rules say with bands. If you're getting sick or stuck, you're too tight - period.

I'd suggest going out the the lap-band website and pulling one of those nifty red-yellow-green charts with the symptoms for too loose, just right or too tight, so you have it for backup with you.

Good luck and feel better!

I am going through the EXACT SAME THING!!!!!!! I am hoping it loosens itself as more weight comes off. Last Saturday I could barely eat anything. Then I feel like i am not eating enough and keep grazing!!!!! Im gonna give it another week or so and see what happens.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
