My sweetie and I both getting banded! Yea!

Recommended Posts

Hi all;

I am so happy! :rolleyes2:

My partner of 10 years and I are both getting banded. Me first on March 3- on clear liquids- yuk. And she on March 10. Both by Tom Brown in Denver.

We are so good together when we are working on a goal. She is the best!

We need to get healthy and are suffering from food addictions. Our next goal is to get this food and weight thing under control.

More later.

Best and love to you all;

Sadie

Just a bit of advice, it may be a good idea to get banded 2 weeks apart, instead of just a week. I know a week out I was still not 100%. On day 9 I made it to the outlet mall and that was draining. I'm sure you're going to want to be there for one another so spacing them out by two weeks will make supporting one another easier. I don't know your support system but it is something to consider.

Hey Sadie congratulations to the both of you.

Me and my sweetie was both banded on the same day. It has really worked out well for us, well most of the time. I had a lot more weight to lose then she did. She lost most of hers really fast within the 1st year, me I was really slow, she stopped losing and then I started losing really fast after the 1st year. So there has been those moments of jealousy between us about each others weight lose. I reached my goal this January, and went under an additional 10lbs. She now wants to lose an additional 20 lbs. too get to her goal, I don't blame her. I want her to reach her goal. When she reaches her goal we will have about a 10 lbs difference between us.

My band got to tight due to stress I had to have 2 cc removed two weeks ago, this was the second time that I had to have Fluid removed. The 1st time I had only 1/2 cc removed about 8 mos ago. So I should not be losing any more, I hope just to maintain my self. It has been wonderful to be able to eat again.

By the way we will be celebrating our 16 yrs together this fall and there is 17 years ages difference between us.

I wish you the best of luck if you have any question just give me a shout.

Keep us updated on your progress. And welcome to bandland.

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd jump in and say hi. The missus, Lise (NY Lady), and I are also being banded together - we're doing as Leena (and our surgeon) suggested and are being banded 2 weeks apart - Lise on the 9th April; me on the 23rd. However, we're both starting the liquid diet together this Thursday.

Sadie, how are you and your partner doing? - I'm presuming you're both banded now.

Leena, your photos are soooo inspiring - you look absolutely fantastic and much younger.

And Dee, congratulations on both you and your sweetie getting to goal - great effort. Please think about posting some photos - they are so inspirational to those of us just starting off on this journey.

Hello Ladies:

The Lap Band journey has been an interesting one for both of us. I would say the Lap Band was an important step in recognizing our food addictions.

We both lost about 40 pounds fairly quickly. And then stalled- we both got our bands tightened a lot. Then I realized I could hardly eat ANY normal food but sugar went down just fine. Same with my partner.

We were still addicted to sugar. I read Eating Less by Gillian Riley (Amazon.com is the only place to find it) and faced my need for food to control my emotions. It is a book unlike ANY you have ever read about eating and diets. I still read it constantly- it has so much truth in it.

We are still 40 pounds down but both had our bands loosened considerably. I can eat most anything except bread and some meats and can say the band does help me maintain my weight loss.

We are both working on our compulsive eating and both going to Weight Watchers three years after getting the band. We are both eating much better but still have some lapses of overeating.

I am eating so much better than I was pre-band and am much healthier than ever in my life. I have worked through most of my junk food issues and rarely eat badly now.

So the band was a necessary step for both of us but not necessarily the complete answer for us.

I simply cannot eat the extremely limited unhealthy menus that many LapBanders eat to lose 100 pounds in the first year. It feels very negative to me and a problem I have (in life) is the tendency to deprive myself of good things that I love. The LapBand is very punitive in essence but can teach you a lot about yourself and your motivations.

The enjoyment of healthy food is something I will not give up for the rest of my life. I am trying to learn to eat GOOD healthy food in limited quantities. I am at peace (95% of the time) about food for the first time in my life and I have been dieting for 50 years!!! I feel good about my eating for the first time.

So we have made good progress but like my wife's therapist said "You have a chronic health problem you will have to deal with for the rest of your life" and I believe this is true.

The whole concept of "diet" is that it is temporary. It is not. Learn to eat for life.

I hope this helps somebody and I still believe I would not have peace in my life about eating without going through the LapBand surgery.

Your journey may vary from mine but I wish you love and peace.

Sadie

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
