You've come to the right place for information. Be sure to read all the informative forums. There is a poll somewhere on how ppl have done with their bands. The great majority are very happy but there are some that haven't worked out. It takes a lot of work and dedication. It's not a quick fix at all.

I know how you feel, so many questions? the one thing I know for sure is that this surgery has to work for me, or I might not be around for long.

Hi Teaching88, check out the threads here. There are explanations of the surgery, including videos if you are so inclined.

Everybody is different so I can only speak for myself. To me, the pain from the surgery was minimal. I was prescribed pain meds that kept the pain down. My surgery was outpatient and I was in and out in four hours. I returned to my desk job four days after the surgery. I was a little tired the first day but otherwise I'm fine. Some people take two weeks or more, depending on their job and how well they think they recover from surgery.

In terms of scars, all surgeons do it differently. I had five incisions. Three of them are very small, maybe two centimeters in length. One is maybe half an inch. The largest is about an inch and a half. This is where the scope was placed and where my port is located.

Good luck and enjoy LBT, there is a lot of great information and a lot of supportive people here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
