Could I eat all this if i had good restriction?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I got my first fill on Monday, 4cc's on a 10cc band. To tell you the truth, while I feel, some restriction, it is nothing major. For example, I had to go to a business lunch and I was able to eat one crab cake and a couple of bites of the second, and about 1/3 of a cup of ceasar salad and a couple of bites of creme brulee. While I ate much less than I would have normally, I didn't feel any restriction and I stopped eating just because I mainly lost interest. What gives??:confused2:

Rarely if ever do first fills give you any kind of restriction.

Usually it's three or four or more before you hit that "sweet spot."

I think you did very well with your amount of food consumed and sometimes for some people it's no longer a stuffed feeling, it's a loss of interest with eating, or it's a hiccup or their nose runs or they get a golf ball feeling, it's it sooo different for each of us what satisfied feels like.

Read Wendell's post about fills and unfills in the FAQ forum, it's very informative.

You stopped eating because you "lost interest"? Did you ever lose interest in food before being banded? Because I didn't!

The only comment I have about what you ate was the crab cake probably had too much breading ( carbs) and the caesar salad dressing is one of the highest in calories. So chicken over a regular salad might have been a better choice, but quantity wise, I don't think you ate a lot.

Try to eat more solid Protein and that will help keep your pouch full longer. I would also asses how long that lunch kept you full in your decision if your restriction is right. If you get too tight, it nots good either.

You are soooo right, I never did just "loose interest" in food before until it was all gone.... I did feel much better about being able to not even look at the bread or the starchy sides and it was a fancy place, so there was almost no breading in the crab cake. However, the cesar Salad Dressing and the creme brulee bites were loaded with calories I'm sure. I have to see how I feel tonight. Thanks for the advice.

Whether it was by will-power or band-power it sounds like you did pretty good over all. Keep up the good work.

As far as the restriction goes, you need to give it some time and most likely some more fills before you really start to feel restricted. Each person is different ofcourse. There are those rare few that hit a "sweet-spot" after just one or two fills and then there are those rare people like myself that had 14 fills my first year. I spent nearly the entire year convinced the band wasn't working for me despite losing over 70% of my excess weight in that same time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
