Recommended Posts

Wanted to add....I'm going to see Dr. Lavin.....I had to get a referral from my PCM first....and he didn't want to give it to me....I had to resort to tears....I've been on a diet for the first 30 years of my life....I want it to end (the diet...not my life)....so he gave a referral to Dr. Lavin....TriCare does cover the lapband 100% if you are 100lbs over your ideal weight for me it's 117-133lbs and have a comorbitiy...for me I have diabetes...I don't have my firsts consult appt though until June 18th.....for those that used Dr. Lavin...how long from your first visit to your surgery?

Hey everyone, just getting started here. I'm on the Gulf Coast and going through Keesler. I have Tricare Prime. My hubby is retired Navy. Had my visit with my PCM yesterday morning and he has put in the referral. Checking the Tricare site constantly but it's still pending. I'm hopping my referral is to LA. I have already been in contact with their office. I'm 5' 3" and 272 with several comorbidities. So I'm praying there will not be a problem. I think I meet the Tricare's 200% rule. So glad to have found this forum the information and support on here is amazing. Plus it's great to be able to talk to those close to home.:crying:

How do you track your referral online? I've logged into the tricare site and searched all over and can't find anything that shows my referral (though my initial was already approve...I have the letter to prove it)? You can request a doctor as long as they accept tricare.....the first referral that I got was to a dr. that didn't even accept the insurance.....be sure to verify!

This is the url I used for tricare

Beneficiary Portal

you have to register and then it will take you to a page that you can check your referral. I got mine this afternoon and it's to Surgical Specialist of La. I talked to them and they had me fax it. I'll be seeing Dr. Redmann. They needed some medical info faxed and then they will call me for an appointment. :cursing:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
