Getting my first fill nxt Monday - advice

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded on Jan 31. I am so happy.

I already lost 17 lbs including the 2 weeks on liquid before

the op.

I am getting my first fill on Monday - only 4 1/2 weeks from

surgery. I am nervous about it. Does it hurt?

I am worried about feeling sick and food not going down.

How much do they put in the fill? Should I ask them to go slow?

Need some advice. Thanks

First off, don't be nervous about it. I remember my first fill, I had myself so worked up it was ridiculous. Then, it turned out to not be that big a deal. As far as how much they put in, it is different for everyone.

Do you know if you are getting your fill under flouro or not? If I know that, I can give you a better idea of what to expect.

As far as feeling sick and food not going down, that would mean you are either overfilled or not following bandster rules. Once you start getting fills, remembering the rules of taking baby size bites, chewing your food to mush and waiting a bit between bites will become even more important. As long as you follow the bandster rules, and are not overfilled, you should be fine.

Hi Elle

just had my first fill, 2 months post-op. I was nervous and scared, but today I told myself, just get it over with. Wow! I can tell you it was an experience. the doc had me lie down he pushed around a little looking for the port had me push out my tummy and done, no pain.

everyone was telling me it was easy, but my nerves got the best of me.

I am feeling such joy today.

don't be scared you can do it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
