I live an hour east of Toronto. The specialist I saw 2 years ago is located in Oshawa (30 minutes east of Toronto). I do not recall his name, I know it Dr. V.... I did get confirmation that from another doctor that he has done several lap band surgeries so that is reassuring. He seemed like a great doctor in my opinion when I went to see him 2 years ago when I was considering a gastric bypass.

I had my band done in Quebec and it was not covered by insurance or Medicare, the cost was 17,500, and not over night stay in a hospital. If you want more information just let me know

Two years ago I was told it was around $15,000 CDN so I am hoping that number is about the same. I could ask father's side of the family to help me out by providing me with the funds to have the surgery however I would rather go father into debt (I am a University student) than do that for some reason.

As I have said tomorrow morning I go in for an ultrasound to essentially determine whether I can have laproscopic surgery or not...I am not too keen to go in though, not really comfortable with exposing portions of my body.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
