Does saline run back through tube?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm not having any problems. My curiosity is just getting the better of me. How does all the saline we've been given during our fills stay in the band? Does a little flow back and forth in the tube? A question for my doc the next time I go in!

Anne

It's a continuous stream from your port to the band. There is no valve that keeps all the saline in the band. So part of your total ccs that you have in your band is actually in your tubing. I don't imagine it's very much. But maybe that would explain why bands are said to be able to hold more ccs than the cc number given for the band?

Good point! Now I wonder if maybe that's why we feel more restriction some times more than others. Although, I think I've read that this has to do with where we're at with hydration.

I was told it holds about 1cc - I asked the same question on here a few weeks ago. I figured if they could put the Fluid into the band it could also go out! I wonder if this can explain why our restriction can vary so much from day to day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
