China--I was a total mental case the week before my surgery, that's so normal!!!

The gas was hard for me to deal with---the CO2 buildup, anyway. I deal with the other kind. :tongue2: My shoulder/back hurt for exactly 10 days after surgery but on the 11th day I woke up and it was gone. I know the length of time is different for everyone; some people don't even have the issue.

This is so exciting!!! I'm so excited for everyone!

I feel like I'm slowing down; I've got to bust my butt on the exercising!!! And I feel like I can eat a lot more lately; looks like I really will need the fill in January!

China, the gas was about the same length of time for me also.. about 10 days. It would come and go and you have to try to let it out the best you can or it can last longer. Then as Bloom says, all of a sudden you wake up and it was gone. But I still get it when I have my Protein Shake. But we need the Protein so I can live with it.

Also, at the last meeting you guys were talking about Hair loss and it was mentioned that there is something that you can take to prevent it. Does anyone remember what that was ?

there would be no reason for your hair to fall out after this surgery. I do take the Biotin because my hair was falling out before the surgery. Not sure if it has helped. Cant hurt though!

I liked mine a lot. Designer whey Protein, Vitamin Shoppe. Just dont buy too much as you do not need it for much longer than a week. I bought two containers and have half of each left.

Judy, I didn't think that we would loose hair but at the last meeting, (I wasn't there) a couple of the girls were talking about Hair loss.

Also, I thought that we need to do the Protein Shakes for quite awhile.

Hoffamn does not want us on the Protein Shakes after we go on solid food as the Protein shakes go right through the band and do not contribute to your fullness. When I started on soft food (three weeks I think), he told me to go off the shakes. He was very emphatic about it.

The Hair loss happens to the bypass patients because they can not absorb Vitamins. The only way the band would contribute to hair loss is if you are not eating healthy. The band does not alter your bodys ability to absorb vitamins and nutrients.

I have to disagree on the Protein Powder -notice I did not say shakes. If you eat as little as they say you may not be able to get enough Protein. I was told to still use at least one protein supplement a day. Sometimes it is a bar, sometimes the powder in milk or coffee.< /p>

I was concerned about Hair loss and was on Biotin prior to surgery. I was told I did not need it after surgery as it was in the multi Vitamin. Now my hair is thinning! I think I am going back on it again. It could just be the shock to our system of surgery. My hair thinned out on top when I was first diagonosed as a diabetic also.

that is probably why he says to eat the Proteins first before anything else (yes, even before the chocolate, LOL). Actually, I am five months post-op, down 26 pounds and eat pretty much a little of everything, I do try to do Protein first and veggies second, but it does not always work that way. My protein levels in my blood work has always been fine, so for me at least it is not a problem. Everything seems to have fallen into place. I guess the best thing to do is confirm with Hoffman if you want to continue the Protein Drinks, as everyone is a little different. Again, unfortunately, there is still enough of an overeater in me that eating too little has never been a problem, but one can always dream!!!!

Finally got the application, wrote the letter, called the doc for copies of records, etc.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions on submitting the application? I'm much further behind then the rest of you, but you all are seriously inspiring me to get my butt moving on this.

Anything else I should include? How long until you found out you were accepted? Did anyone have something missing (like a letter from the doctor, or something) but get accepted anyway?

Sorry for all the questions - I'm just really excited.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
