Approved 2 places - where to go?

Yes I do have a year of free fills. I've already had 2 this month. They are great. They really helped me get it covered by the insurance. Good luck, and if you have any other questions, let me know.

I'm so excited everyone - I found Dr. Shayani who is now the head of St. James Hospital Bariatric Center in Olympia Fields, IL. I located him through the help of another bandster - Jeni (thanks again Jeni). I have all of my preliminary appointments done last month and paperwork submitted on Monday (7/14/08) and I was approved today -7/17/08!!!

I'm so excited - I also received my surgery date - 9/02/08! :)

hey there. i'm sorry i didn't see your post earlier - i could've helped you get in touch with him. yeah, dr. shayani has been transitioning into a new spot. he left day one almost right after i had my surgery (which totally freaked me out). but he has been excellent with keeping up with me, doing fills, etc. he is a very reassuring doctor.

good luck with your surgery!

Thanks Spicegrrrl - Isn't he the BEST!!!! I feel so comfortable with him. He really has a great bedside manner and makes you feel totally at ease. His direct follow up with phone calls & emails are shocking to me as I didn't believe doctors did that these days. What a wonderful surprise it was!

Does your insurance cover your fills or do you have to pay out of pocket for those?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
