I just went to a seminar on Lap bands and Dr Boutt said also that another company is seeking FDA approval and it should be out in 1-2 years but it is very similiar. The only difference was they were looking at the snap area where the band closed because that is where they where finding it erroded the stomach wall. Currently they have improved the techinique on putting in the current ones by putting in a extra stitch at the snap site to keep a space between the stomach and snap. As far as Insamed new band the port will be a little thinner how ever only 3mm? not alot to make a whole lot of difference.Dr Boutt also stated when the day comes that they truely make a smaller port that is a big difference it should not be a major problem to switch over.
