Is there anything sticking out?

Recommended Posts

How do they do fills? Or maybe I should ask what are they? People keep mentioning ports and stuff. Is there something sticking out of your body that the surgeon tightens back up or something?

Take a look at the pic of the lapband at the top of this forum. See the end with the ring? That is the band. Notice the long tube that goes to the other end where there is a funny shaped thing. That is the port. The band goes around your upper stomach and is attached by the tube to the port which is placed either to the left of your bellybutton or sorta between your breast and just under the ribcage. The port is where the dr injects the saline that fills the band to give you restriction. It requires a needle but is not painful. I suggest you go to Inamed.com and do some research there. Hope that made sense, LOL!!

yes, you know how you can take insulin out of the bottle with the syringe? You poke the neeedle through the flat spongy area in the top of the bottle to get the medicine out and into the needle. You have poked a hole in the top of the bottle but it doesn't leak because, well, it just doesn't.

The port, while I I haven't seen one in real life, seems to work the same way, that little disk is under your skin somewhere near your Band, the doctor can feel it there and puts a needle through your skin and into the port to fill or unfill the band. Then takes the needle out and it doesn't leak. The wonders of modern medicine!

Yes, we had a thread on where's your port a couple of months ago, it was interesting and fun. Mine wasn't even where I thought it was, LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
