In between surgery and first fill

Recommended Posts

I was just curious about ya'lls experience with weight lose between your surgery and your first fill. Did you lose? Gain? Stay the same? My surgeon said I would probably gain during this time. I have actually lost a few pounds and go in for my first fill next week. I was just wondering how this time went for everyone else ? :biggrin2:

So far I have lost 34 pounds, about to start solids. I go in for my first fill on 2/27. I can't seem to get enough calories in still, I'm eating about 300-400 per day. This should change when I start on solids. Everyone's body works differently.

I was 252 the day of my surgery. Today (five days post-op) I am 246. So right now I am averaging just over a pound a day. Of course, I won't be starting on mushies until Saturday and I understand that you will slow down and even gain once you reach that point, so I am grateful for anything I can lose until that point!

I lost 17 pounds in the first eight weeks before my first fill. 13 of those were in the first five weeks....then a standstill. I just had the fill done this morning, so I am looking forward to watching the scale go down again!

I was banded Jan. 15. I lost 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Now, I've gained 3 back. I don't feel like I have had anything done. My swelling is completely gone. I can't wait for my first fill, Feb 27.

Before the surgery, I lost 12 pounds on the pre-op diet, which I swear was more calories than what I'm consuming now. After the surgery, I lost 9 pounds, so obviously, my loss has slowed. I'm now in the mushy stage and am finding that every day it's getting harder and harder to not eat too much. I suppose that means that I'm healing nicely, though, so I won't complain. But I don't have any restriction and it's too easy to eat a whole container of hummus. So, I'm going to have to white-knuckle it until I get my first fill, which is in 12 days. I'm hoping to at least not gain in the meantime. If I lose a couple more pounds, well then that would be fantastic.

But I will say, it's very hard to get used to seeing the scale go down during pre-op and right after surgery, and then to see it practically stall. It's especially hard when I realize that I am eating at least 1000 calories less per day than what I ate pre-surgery, so it's difficult to accept that the scale isn't showing any more significant losses. Of course there are a number of reasons why -- retaining Water, slower metabolism, etc. etc.

I was banded on 1/7/08 & have my first fill on 2/18/08. I can't wait! I've lost 16lbs since the surgery, but lately I've just been HUNGRY. The first few weeks, I was feeling full after eating and the weight was pouring off, but now I have the hungry horrors. My weight loss has stalled as a result, so I'm reeeeeeeeeally looking forward to this fill!

In the past, I've always gained a few extra lbs around "that time of the month" (luckily it hasn't happened this time) and I'm hoping that's part of my plateau problem right now. Between hormones, hunger, & bloat, Monday can't come fast enough! :biggrin2:

I pretty much stayed the same after the first week. It's taken 3 fills to get a little restriction. In the morning I am really tight and it takes forever to get my meds down. By dinner time I think I could eat a whole pizza.< /p>

I lost 10 lbs in the first 10 days after surgery and then I didn't lose any for a couple of weeks but I was happy because I didn't gain it back either. I had my first fill on wed and have lost another 2 lbs. So I have lost a total of 12 lbs the 1st month which the doc said was really good. My goal is to lose about 10lbs each month. I am going to get fills every 2-3 weeks until I get to my 'sweet spot'.

I am 4 wks out and have lost 20 pounds. 1st 14 came off quick because barely eating and when did was liquids. Last 6 pounds took 2 1/2 wks to come off but still doing good.

I was supposed to get a fill last week but had some redness so went back this week but he wants to wait one more week. I am ready but don't want to jump the gun so maybe next thursday will be the big day:)

It sounds like you are doing great. Losing after your fill is a good sign. I have heard of others who had several fills before they got any kind of restriction. How many cc's did you get? Can you tell the difference?

I had 7cc put in during surgery and .4cc during my first fill. 7.4cc total. The doc said that he had to put that much in for the band to sit correctly. He said that sometimes that happens. So I don't know if some of my weightloss was successful because I already had saline in my band.

My doctor told me most people gain... I suffered and lost. I would HIGHLY recommend trying to lose as much as possible when you can since it does slow down later. AND, he also said that before your fills you don't have restriction and it's all up to you. So if you were gaining before, you'll gain now... you'll be more hungry... just do your best. Everyone is different...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
