New...and Scared!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All! I've reading over the posts for the past week or so, but have never posted. I have decided to get the Lab Band. I am attending the seminar on Wednesday night and making my surgeon appointment then too. I am SO excited but SO scared! I really want to do this, I really NEED to do this, then why am I so darn nervous? I've never had surgery (except for a C-Section) and I was never under anesthesia, and that's what is making me nervous. Any suggestions on getting over this feeling?

Tracy,

I am also new and have a seminar scheduled for Wednesday! You wouldn't happen to be inTX, would you?

I am scared and nervous just like you but I know it is something I need to do.

Maybe we can buddy up and keep each other posted and encourage each other! I'll wait till Wed to make a final decision but I pretty much know that I will be getting the surgery.:smile2:

Alexis,

The main reason is that the older I get, the more weight I'm gaining. I've done WW, Jenny Craig and EVERY diet and diet pill on the market. I'm ready to make a life long change & start feeling better mentally & physically. I need some self-esteem! We'll do this together!! :scared2:

Going under is what has me concerned too. Has anyone heard of them doing this with a spinal block or twilight sedation? I guess they want you to be totally out in case they need to go from laproscopic to full open surgery?

I've done the seminar and my consultation is March 12th. I wish everyone luck with their journey!

It's very important that you speak with your anesthesiologist before the surgery and express all your concerns and fears. I have awful nausea after general anesthesia and told that to the MD before I went "under." When the usual medications for nausea didn't work for me, there was another medication ordered in case I needed it. Bottom line: be honest and ask as many questions as you need to.

Good luck!

Tracy

I live in texas and have been trying to get up the nerve and call to make my appt for orientation. I am so scared. I am not as afraid of the surgery and failing to lose the weight. Do you worry about that to?

Oh honney, let me tell you, I was banded Friday Feb 1, in Mexico. On Sunday Morning Igot on a plane and wallked "miles and miles" through an airport then another plane, then more miles through an airport then drove 3 hours to home where I had to go to work to put a payroll out that day. After a C-section this will be a cake walk. Not bad at all. Just walk off the gas (the worst part) and the rest is gravey. I think alot of the fear comes from giving up out biggest comfort, (food), I did not realize how i depended on food to comfort me. I am now learning to love this little band of mine and I havent even had my first fill yet. Good luck

Momof321,

I am not that afraid of losing weight as much as the surgery itself. I know when I put my mind to it, I will be able to do it. I want it that bad!! I know it's a long journey though and will not be easy, but I'm ready to try!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
