ARGH! 1 week post-op w/a cold!!! HELP!?

Recommended Posts

It's happended...what I've feared the most. I'm SICK! I'm to be banded on Tuesday, 2/19 and I started to feel the cold come on Thursday, 2/7...Cold w/a mild cough (but a cough). I'm afraid to call the Dr's because I fear they will cancel or postpone me. Thinking that in a week I'll feel better. Been taking the Vitamins, etc...:crying:Any suggestions?

I think you should be ok by your band date, but call your surgeon's office, anyway, just to be sure, they might want you to see your regular doc just to make sure you don't have any infections. A round of antibiotics might be in order prior to surgery if your doc suspects a sinus infection. In this case, I would err on the side of caution.

Thanks, travelgirl. I was going to wait until Wed before starting my calls. Pretty yucky cold. My co-workers said I talked myself into being sick. Perhaps I did

I agree, I would ask---if you are not past the cough, and sometimes they do hang on, you will be recovering with the cough --which would not feel good with new incisions, and might be harmful lung-wise.

I understand being anxious, but start off in a good place!!! Maybe they will just do as travelgirl said, and put you on a round of anitbiotics to be sure.

The thought of all the coughing immediately post op hurts to think about!

Get Well Soon!!!

I was just thinking the same thing, immediately post op with a cough.... OUCH!!!!!! It was hard enough to just hiccup! OMG!!!

SO, YOU GET BETTER SOON!!!!!!

I somehow managed to get an awful boil in my bikini area a couple of weeks before my surgery, and I called to see if it would be a problem, and they wanted me to get on some antibiotics and get it healed before surgery, since a boil is basically a staph infection, they didn't want to risk it.

Much better safe than sorry!

Hi. I am on day 8 of a flu that has me coughing. I had my second band on day 3 of this illness. Big Mistake. When I cough hard, I throw up so I have eaten very little this week and probably lost 10 pounds. However, i am nervous about my band slipping. Also it has been difficult to deal with the new restriction and illness. I wish I had waited a week, even though I was desperate for a fill. I also think that my complete lack of food and difficulty with drinking is keeping me sicker, longer. Good luck with your choice. I am sure this all will work out in the end but I am still miserable .

If I feel like I do now in the am I will def see if I can see my dr (or go for urgent care). Seems like Drs these days (except for pediatricians) don't have the time to see us sick people. I'm feeling more flu-like now. I'll call in the morning to see if this is going to be an issue. I still have a week so it might be ok. But I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your help!

Hi. On day 10 of this flu, I had .7 cc's removed from my band and I am so much happier. I can actually get liquid down. I will accept that I can't have aggresive fills and fills when i am sick and if it takes me another month or two to lose weight, so be it. Good luck with your decision.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
