Not losing!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 12/13/2007 and started at 213 and am now at 197 for about 4 weeks. My first fill was on 1/24/2008 and next fill not scheduled until 3/21/2008. I have not lost anything since the first fill. I feel like I am not hardly eating and do not drink liquids with my meals nor do I snack. I only eat 3 small lo carb meals a day and nothing is coming off!!! My ideal weight would be 135 therefore I think this maybe normal. I had a easy recovery with no problems so I can't complain. Do I have to get a few more fills before I will see some more weight loss??? this is kind of depressing since I was self pay and am faithfully going to Curves three times a week. What suggestions can someone give me to make me get psyched again?

You are in what we call bandster Hell! You should start feeling restriction after the 3-4th fill. In the mean time all I can offer you is to keep doing what you are doing & exercise.

lachanga...are you actually keeping track of your caloric intake? Reason I'm asking...you may be eating TOO LITTLE. Yeap eating too little will slow down or stop your weightloss because your body will go into starvation mod. If you're barely eating as you're stating and you're working out three times a week that kind of gives a hint that this may be the problem. Track your food intake on Fitday or Sparkpeople or even just on a piece of paper.....My physician had me on about 800-850 calories a day at about the weeks you're at right now....check with your physician or bariatric center and see what your nutritional intake should be for where you are post-surgery now. Then see if you're getting it all in. I think you'll be amazed at what you find if you're really honest with your food journal. Then at least you'll know if it's too little, too much or if it's truly the amount you're suppose to have then you'll have information to bring to your doc for him/her to help you further and break that plateau.

I wish you the best!

Lachanga--I'm right there with you. I haven't lost in nearly a month either. If I lost after my last fill it was the two or three days right after. Since then, my scale has settled.

I'm going for my next fill tomorrow and I'm really hoping it will jump start me again. I also recommitted to my exercise. I'm shooting for 4x a week. I can't say I'm doing all the right things. I try to stick to 3 small meals a day but am finding myself making them medium sized meals. And then there is the Snacks. Not a lot, but late night I allow myself a yogurt of a fruit cup.

On the main page there is a plateau breaking diet somewhere. I can't remember the page. It looks really similar to the Atkins induction phase. If you can commit to that for a few days it may help. I can't. In the past when I even started to THINK about doing atkins I gained 4 pounds.

The suggestion that you are eating too little is valid. Also, even if you think you are eating the right amount, your body may just need a boost. I've been told to increase my calories by about 500 a day for two days. That may jump start your body. I tried it, but I had a hard time going back to normal after that. Damned head issues.

Good luck. We're all pulling for you. Whatever you do, don't get discouraged. Work the plan, and the plan will work!

I started the log on fitday today. I will start monitoring. I get my second fill in March. My doctor wants me to consume at least 900 calories a day. I will keep the log for a few weeks. I may have to go for another fill sooner than March. Thanks everyone for your replies. I never thought that maybe I was consuming too few calories. That may be it.

What has your log showed you in the last few days? How are things going since you started tracking? Are you making sure to get your 900 calories in?

I got on the scale yesterday and I am down to 194. I have begun to lose again now that I am tracking. I am consuming about 1000 calories a day sometimes a bit more. I get my second fill on March 21st but right now I feel I am restricted well. Thanks everyone for the motivation. It helped!

I am now down to 182 lbs!!! I feel great. Ready for another fill but I am now living in Florida! Will call Weight Loss Center tomorrow to schedule an appointment to go to PA and get the fill and check in with the doctors. I was supposed to go last month. Now I feel I am ready for another one. I am so happy I made this decision!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
