Would you do it again?

Recommended Posts

I had complications immediately after the surgery, and for a few weeks after, and I would still do it again. There is nothing like the feeling knowing that you are helping yourself get healthy and then seeing the results either in your measurements or pounds that motivates you. I have lost only 4 pounds since my surgery, 27 overall since I started my pre-opt liquid and I am happy.

I think the big thing is what you told you aunt, being able to keep the weight off at the end. That was a big one for me too.

Yes, I'd do it again.

i would do it again, but sometimes i wish that i would have opted for bypass, as i have not lost much weight.

however, check back with me in a month or so, and i'll probably be singing a different tune.

I am hoping to be in your boat a few months from now. I am a positive person and only see the good in all of this. I, too, feel so much better after by 30lbs weight lose. My knee that was bothering me no longer hurts and I have the energy of a 19 yr old again. I am 52 yr. old and feel like I wasted the last 12-15 years of my life being too heavy to enjoy things. I want my life back and I am determined to stick to all the rules and live the rest of my life being happy and active.

Amen Lilo...i also have regained my life.

I am so glad you asked this question since it's been one that has burning in my brain for a while now...I have a choice of either lapband or gastric bypass...completely up to me. I was very comfortable with the lapband until several well meaning people started me doubting my decision. Obviously they all think bypass is the better choice (most especially those who had it of course) and the only people (other than my husband who really wants the higher safety surgery rating of the band) to say they prefer lapband are the ones on the internet who have had it done. Big topic being debated in my head on a daily basis and I really feel I need support to stand by my decision.

You are all such an inspiration. I am cleared for surgery on February 13th and your comments have reassured me that I'm making the right decision. This site certainly helps sort out issues. We're lucky to have one another!!!

I love my band-Only been 5 months and 36#-half way there,,,,,it has been a lifesaver. My knees are better-my back is better-no more headaches- no more reflux.I am off all medications and feel wonderfully confident.

My daughter is a doctor and I strongly tell her to have her patients that ask-to do the band.

We have group nutrition meetings and several Gastric Bypass people have been in hospital with dehydration and malnurishment. They can t drink milk and fats are trouble-due to the removal of a large portion of the stomach and the digestive enzyme production that goes with it.

I constantly am amazed at the problems and complaints they have.

I have had NO problems.I am compliant and want this to work-so it will...I needed a forced lifestyle change-I had gotten to the point I couldn t do it by myself.

I 100% support banding.

I would have it again in a nanosecond. I have lost 40 pounds in 4 months. I don't snore anymore, my hip stopped hurting, I have no more acid reflux, I don't feel like I need to go to sleep at 7 pm. I want to lose 50 more then I'll be queen of the world, lol. Not a moment's pain. If I could have lost it over all these years just by "dieting" I'd have been a skinny person. I would not suggest gastric bypass unless someone is so obese that they are close to dying. I have to bite my tongue from recommending lap band every time I see an overweight person. You need to do what feels right for you, not your family or friends. Only you know what you've suffered to get to the point of considering the procedure. :tt1:

Yes, I would do it again.

I wish I could have had RnY but my bmi wasn't high enough.

Total costs for surgery, meds, aftercare has been less than $8,000 and that's w/ no insurance.

I need to add-My mental attitude is like night and day.I was a recluse-so unhappy and angry all the time-mostly at myself for being so out of control.

I desperately wanted this band...but couldn t afford

it two years ago when it was $18k.And BMI had to be 40 and age below 50.

Then thank GOD ~San Antonio lowered prices to $12K- and changed requirements-when I was seriously conferring with a Mexico Dr~even though I am terrified of Mexico and the Horror stories that come out of there.

I jumped through hoops to qualify for this Band. And I was in shock and disbelief that it was really going to happen for me-when I was approved.I was terrified every day-afraid they d change their minds about banding me.

I have been walking on clouds since then.

And HAPPY.!!

I am getting back to me.!~Not the fat shell of a person I was wallowing in..But the Real me.

I ve been a lifer on Weight Watchers-been through Nutrisystems-jenny graig-Adkins-South Beach-Yo-Yo all the way.

I knew this was my last resort. And I don t even weigh every day like I always did-cause I know it is working. From insertion day on~ I knew I will never again be out of control.

I would Kiss the inventor of this band if i could!

All I can say is I would fight to my death to keep my band in and working.

TY TY TY...congrats to all of you and God be with you on your journey.

I would do it again. I love my band.

My cousin had GB and she looks great but she is not healthy. She didn't lose her weight fast either. She lost about 30 pounds and stalled, then had a baby and then she got very sick from malnutrition and then she lost her weight because she was so sick. She is severly anemic (sp?) and has to go to the doctor and get special injections. Like I said, she looks great but is always sick.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
