Marchies in February

Recommended Posts

HI everyone, I am going to need your support like never before.

On Sunday morning I ate about 1 cup of Coco wheats then I was moving a 500 lb trundle bed down some stairs. I was using every muscle in my chest and stomach. For dinner DH got KFC. I had a piece of chicken about the size of a thimble, and about a tablespoon of coleslaw. I immediately began to slime. I could not stop the slime or the coughing and gagging. I heaved from 7pm to 5am then finally went to the ER in excruciating pain like the golf ball feeling only alot worse. My blood pressure was 215 over 70 indicating I was in severe pain.

The ER doctor on call said my lower stomach was in spasms against my pouch from heaving and with a little pepcid and a shot of demerol I would be better.

I did feel better and went home and slept all Monday. Monday night I got up and had warm tea that gurgled down. Tuesday I went to work and decided to try some applesauce I had 2 tbs, and was back to heaving, sliming and was in utter misery. I went back to the ER. I had 4 shots of demerol that made me woosey but did nothing for the pain.

They called in my Lapband doctor who gave me an immediate unfill and then a upper GI, realizing that nothing was going down and that emergency surgery was in order. He was upset that the ER doctor from the day before did not call him as soon as I came in.

I had surgery that showed 1 of my stitches had come undone and my band was tilted. But the worst problem was that the lower stomach with a main vein was logged up through the band cutting off circulation to my stomach. Essentially part of my stomach was beginning to die. He had to cut off the band which gave a good blood flow back to the vein and my stomach is fine. But I am completely devastated. I have officially lost 60 lbs, and was on the home stretch. He is not objecting to rebanding but said that often same problems will occur. I don't know if my insurance will even cover a rebanding. I no longer fit the criteria. On a good note he said my insides were totataly different then when he banded me. I had initially had fat all around my organs especially my liver and stomach. He said it was like it all melted away.

We are not sure what happened, did I strain to hard moving the bed, did I heave to much with the sliming, or did my belt loosen from not having all the fat around it(that is his idea maybe).

All I know is my little buddy is gone.

Janine

You have my sympanthies, you are understandably devistated.

Not that you want to count your blessings, but sweetie you have your health and your stomach is going to recover, which is so much more important than what size you are.

And there's nothing saying that you can't continue to lose from here forward.

You have us to come to. Good luck. I'm so sorry.

J

Hello Everyone, just checking in. Janine, I read what happened to you. So sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how you must feel. I take my band as being a part of me I was born with. So in losing your band, I feel as if you've lost part of you. Now you must adjust to a new you again.

Take all that you've learned in changing you eating style and life style and apply it now more than before. You've learned alot about yourself, now draw on that knowledge. I agree with the others that you can do this. I too hope that you can be rebanded. Be careful and take all precautions while healing. Feel Better.

Hope everyone else is seeing some results.

I've been very "comfortable" with myself this winter. I've found I can stay within my daily calorie goals and maintain my weight without exercising on a routine, scheduled basis. (but I do still exercise)

I know once spring sets in and the bike path is open and the days get longer, I'll pickup where I left off and kick it up a notch in the exercise dept, i'm confident in that.

Not sure why I need to explain myself to anyone, maybe it's just for me, setting things right in my mind on why I haven't lost any significant weight in 4 months.

Thanks for listening to my jibber-jabber.

++sledding tomorrow will surely burn a few extra calories!

Supposed to get 2-4 more inches here in Northern Lower MI.

See everyone in the new month.....We will be 1 year Marchies!

We've come a long way, haven't we?

Janine,

I've just been thinking about you the last few days. What's the latest? Can your insurance provide replacement surgery, if that is safe? Well, try to let us know what's going on with you.

Hi All, Oh Juli, I have a pair of white w/ rainbows on each back pocket. These pants are when I was at my best weight. I had my daughter put them on to see if she can fit them. They are too big for her and she weighs between 155lbs and 150lbs. I want to come down to 175lbs myself. I think I weighed 175lbs in those pants. Well, what ever weight I am when I get into those pants is where I'd like to stay. I don't know the size of the pants for I had taken the tag out long time ago.

I'm back to losing weight again. So, I'm good for the next 3 months. I can only diet 3 mos at a time then I hit a plateau. It seems 3 mos weight lose, then 3 - 4 mons no weight lose. The most is 30 lbs weight loss for that time. I've lost 15lbs since my last and best fill, Feb 6 till today Mar. 1.

demsvmejm, the month of Feb. I didn't exercise at all. But, I still managed to lose weight just the same. I didn't feel bad for people more over weight than us can't exercise for a while till they lose a reasonable amount. So, we're still ahead of the game. But, I will begin Monday. I do my exercise after work by a gym near my job. At least you did get more than me in.

Oh Juli, now that you have better restriction, your weight will come off easier too. I understand what you mean with this restriction being more tricky. I'm still getting mine under control. It's getting easier, but still learning. Once again we're still learning now at a different level.

I'm debating on getting once last fill to end the 1 year. If I don't, I hope this restriction lasts for a few months. Then after my plateau, I'll get another fill to boost up my weight lost and more restriction.

Janine, hope you're getting better and still maintaining you food portions. You have already proven to yourself you can lose the weight. You'll lose the rest. Now you'll be an inspiration to me doing it all on your own. Keep it up.

So, good luck to all of us, now that we're losing weight again.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
