Marchies in February

Hello Everyone, I see we're all are somewhere at or near that "sweet spot". But, help me with this.

Since October, I've cut back drasticly on my carbs, rice, Pasta, potatoes the lot. Well, yesterday there was a luncheon at work. Since I've given up meat for Lent, of course I couldn't eat any of it. So what was left for me to eat was salads. Pasta and potatoes. So I had, mac&cheese, mac salad, potatoe salad and garden salad w/dressing. Took a few bites then had to wait a few hours before finishing the rest. Had that stuck feeling again in my chest. When I was able to finish it, between 3:15 and 3:45pm, I ate more than I should of. Now to the chase. Two hours later, I came down w/ a servere Migraine headache, couldn't keep my eyes open or focused, nausea and dizziness. When I got home, I took 1 pain killer pill and went to bed woke up 2 1/2 hrs later. I was kinda scared that I would not wake up. I'm serious. My head hurt so bad, I thought somethng would burst in my head.

Can someone help me with what happened? Tonight I put a piece of mac salad in my mouth and quickly spit it out. To scared to finish it. And it was only 2 pieces of mac salad.

Thanks...

Whitepants- do you think it was a loss in Protein? The foods

you listed are not high in Protein. I try to eat a egg everynite that seems to help with headaches.

Julie- You are such an inspiration, I love a gal with a lot of Chutzpah!!

Ok, so I went to my Bariatric group which is run by the dietitian and the nurse. She was showing us what we should eat at a typical meal. here goes:

1)a 1 0z. piece of protein size of like a lime.

2) 3 table spoons of green Beans

3) 3 tablespoons of a starch (mashed potatoes)

4) a half of a peach

she showed us this typical meal in the rubbery fake food. She was telling us to layer the food in this order. I was like are you kidding me, I could get half that amount in maybe. And again I feel I have perfect restriction.

What do you guys think? Also I told her that I am tight until noon, and I could never do a meal like that for lunch. My typical lunch is a cheese stick and a container of applesauce. I work up from there until bed time.

Janine, you may have a point. I only had two yogurt shakes that day. What I ate was the only real food I had that day. I ate more carbs in that day than in a whole week. And I was highly stressed that day more that usual. You may be right. Thanks.

I'm glad you're going to a support groups/dietician. I was at my support group when I felt bad the other night. There was a rep from Shaklee showing their products. My nutritionist recommends 2oz - 4oz of Protein. But that depends on your restriction level.

At the meeting one person suffers daily with the same stuck food feeling. And she also have something hot before meals. But there are time when she doesn't eat to keep from having that feeling. There were mention of getting a small unfill which might relieve that feeling when eating.

Does anyone think having a unfill might relieve the problem? If you have a small unfill you may not have restirction again. What is anyone's opinion on this? I'm at the best restriction since the band and an unfill of any amout will allow me to eat like before. I won't but the ability will be there.

How's everyone else doing?

Talking of a slight un-fill, I'm monitering myself closely to see if I might need to do that.

If I eat after 7pm I have reflux overnight. I've even woke up with the taste of vomit in my mouth. Ick. My goal now is to drink a pot of herb tea between an hour after dinner and bed time to wash out anything that might be in my pouch. I've not had reflux or vomit ever since being banded. I've PBed enough to know the difference too, and this is real live stomach acid coming up.

Weird huh? Anyway, yesterday was a week since my last fill and yes, the band has been tempermental, but I am able to eat solid Protein if I chew well and take small bites. I have an appointment the first week of March to do my 1 year follow up. If I'm not completely comfortable by then I'll have them take out some. They put in .5cc. I suppose I'd ask them to remove .2 or .3. I hope not to have to that though.

Sigh...yes, this is harder at times. But overall it's the best thing I've ever done for myself.

XO, Marchies.

I though I was finally at my sweet spot. I am still tight in the morning and taking my meds with hot Water. That took some getting used to. I am still full for up to 3 hours or more, but I can eat more then I should. I’m not talking drastic amounts, maybe a little less than 2 cups of food per sitting. Granted, I have Soup everyday for lunch, not because I have to, it is just convenient, and I can eat the whole can. I am not drinking during or up to ½ to 1 hour after I eat. I still drink hot Decaf green/mint tea all day long and am wondering if that might be the problem. I was thinking that if warm/hot liquids help open the band up, if I keep drinking them all day, does it keep it opened? I know that I am grasping at straws here, but I don’t think I need another fill as I am so tight in the mornings and have to be extra careful about chewing and bite size. I do eat my Protein first, veggies next and am trying to stay away from starches with my dinner. I find that I also get a headache and get very sleepy if I eat too many starches or carbs in one sitting. Any advice would be welcome and helpful.

Mrs H.

Overall how are your calories? Is Soup the best choice because it flows right through. Is there something more solid you can be eating at lunch? Is there sugar in the tea? Are you exercising?

Aside from looking at how many calories you eat and you burn I don't know what to say. You sound plenty restricted.

HTH,

J

I'm back from my unfill appointment. I feel better now, getting rehydrated. They took out .3! I am worried I'll have too little restriction now, but I guess I can always get another fill down the road. When I mentioned the reason I got a fill last time -- had gained 5 lbs in a couple of weeks -- the nurse reminded me that I still have to watch what goes into my mouth and the band can't do everything. I know we all know this -- the band is a tool -- so it was a good reminder & her comment has refocused me a little.

Hope everyone's fill / unfill issues sort out. Mrs. H, I am also really tight in the mornings. I hadn't thought of hot liquids making us looser, but it seems plausible. Weird how the band acts sometimes!!

 Keep going strong, everyone!!

Juli, if you are having reflux, you might consider a small unfill. From my understanding, once you have reflux & night issues (taste of vomit), you are too tight. That's what started to happen to me, then I couldn't even eat soup! But if you are still able to eat protein... who knows. Keep tabs on this and at your appointment you can see if you still want to consider an unfill. Geez 111 lbs you are doing so great!!

My calories are low. I know that I am only getting between 700-900 per day. For me this is not conducive with weight loss. I also only drink unsweetened tea. And yes my exercise has not been what it was or should be. I just have so much on my plate right now that I have let it slide. I know that that is an excuse. I can tell the difference since I started letting it slide. I don’t have the energy I did when I stuck with my exercise routine. I made a pledge to myself this morning that I will start it up tonight when I get home from work. I plan on getting my exercise sheet out and starting at the beginning. I know if I jump right back where I left off, I will not stick with it. I need to start slow and work back up to where I was a few week ago.

I have Soup for lunch a lot because it is convenient. I am not cooking as much at night as before so I don’t have leftovers. This weekend since I worked I didn’t do any of the cooking. I have no idea what my dh is going to cook either. Think I will give him a call and request something. If I leave it up to him it will probably be something along the lines on mac and cheese with hotdogs. I ued to like that, but just typing it makes me kind of sick. I will also ask that he make extra for lunch tomorrow. Maybe something with chicken.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
