Sabotaging all the good work

Recommended Posts

I've just finished a 2 type chocolate cake - it was 1800 calories (so Chris told me after i'd eaten it - I didn't care)... y'no the best of it? I don't even particularly like sweeties !...

For my T for the last 3 nights running i've had chinese curry sauce with prawn crackers (partly coz of the taste - mostly coz I knew it'd go through easy).. I've eaten crisps all week too..

I'm so fed up with myself ! Whats wrong with me??? It's almost like the more people tell me that "i've done so well" the more I want to go eat summat !!!

As a result of eating crap all week my weight has gone up by 3 pounds - not really a proplem - no big deal - but still a gain.. makes me wonder.. why am I doing this AGAIN?

This is how easy it is to pile the pounds back on without this surgery. No wonder I gained more than I lost over the years of dieting.

My restriction is as tight as I can have it - infact it's just right... it's ME thats the problem !!

Hormones? who knows... feeling sorry for myself?? DEFINATELY !! lol...

I'm sitting here swigging at nice cold Water "trying" to stop myself going into the fridge to eat anything that i'm not supposed to.. It's not working... so I thought... type & say how I feel... I've just read it & thought.... what a lot off old toss !!!

Don't ya just hate these types of posts??? The ones where we know the poster knows the answer too - but just can't see it for themselves?

och I don't know.... hit submit before I change me mind !

Audrey, I know what you mean! I'm doing the same thing. I think it's this cold, rainy weather. You're cooped up, bored, restless, so it's easy to go back to our old prebanded habits....comfort foods. But Spring is just around the corner!

You have done such an amazing job! I know that you'll get back on track. (Then you can tell me the secrets. LOL)

Hi Audrey,

I know you know the answer cause I do too! Give yourself a break. Sometimes you need a couple of bad food choice days cause it seems when you have a lot of weight to lose that it is never ending. Two weeks ago, I weighed 10 pounds more than I do now. I was eating a bunch of crap and put on 5 pounds and had to lose that in addition to the 5 more I lost. I find now if I deviate even a little bit from my 1000 calorie a day plan, i dont lose. And its really easy to put the weight back on even with the band. I still have a lot of work to do myself about feeling guilty when I have a treat or go off the wagon for a while.

No, I don't hate these kinds of posts. I think that's what we're here for! You speak of sabotage. Only you can answer this, but do you think there is something frightening to you about getting even closer to your goal? Does it have some symbolism for you?

You also speak of feeling sorry for yourself. Do you mean you're feeling sorry for yourself about something and therefor eating? Or are you feeling sorry for yourself because you've "fallen off the wagon?"

What can you do about it? Well, you could journal and see if that helps you answer the question for yourself. You could go to therapy. Or you could just take the behavioral approach and write down everything you put in your mouth, which tends to keep one from eating as much as one would otherwise.

I'm having the same problem myself, but in my case I know it's emotional eating.

Boy Lisa, you are really lucky that the weather don't affect your eating. When the weather is cold or rainy, I get so bored that all I want to do is eat. I probably open the fridge 100 times. When it is pretty, I feel good and peppy, and I am busy doing other things. The weather plays a big part in my life! Any time the sun is shinning, I feel so much better about myself.

Actually, Betty, I was using the excuse of rain to eat also. I was also using the excuse of boredom, lonelines, happiness, stress. But a very wise doctor pointed out that skinny people stay skinny year long, regardless of rain, snow and boredom, while Morbidly Obese people stay fat all year long by using excuses. Trust me, I hated that he told me that, but he's dead on correct. Rain doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I'm overweight.

I tend to agree with Lisa. I am fat regardless of the weather or anything else actually. I eat because I can and it fills a perceived NEED my subconscious plays with my conscious. GET IT??!! LOL!!!

Lisa I worked with a girl that probably weighed 90 pounds. She ate all day long, if I had eaten 1/3 of what she ate I would not have been able to walk through the door. I honestly don't think I am using the weather as an excuse to eat. My DH is the same way, if it is raining or cold, he eats a lot more than he does on a regular day, and he is skinny! If it stayed sunny and warm every day, I wouldn't be in the house eating I guarentee it. I honestly believe that the weather itself plays a big part in not only my eating, but how I feel. When it is raining, I have aches and pains. When it is sunny, I am working in the yard, not hurting at all, or out riding my Harley, or swimming in the pool. I just feel good when the sun is shinning. I actually didn't realize how much the weather played a part in my life until I moved from a cold climate to a warm one. I am glad it doesn't play a part in your life, it sure makes it easier for you.

Betty, if that were the case, we'd all be skinny all summer long and only fat in the winter. I'm fat year round, every year. I weighed over 300 pounds last summer, and last winter, and the summer before that.

I'm exactly the same way, Betty. The sunshine effects me tremendously!

I agree 100%..I am sun freak so when the sun is out my appetite is virtually gone and I'm so busy doing so many things..like today pulling weeds:) ..but when it is raining I like to cook and bake and eat!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
