Activity level after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm considering the surgery but I'm in the process of building a house right now (we are doing a lot of the work ourselves) and was wondering how bad you feel right after the surgery. I will be self pay. I've been researching since about last July. My mom recently (Nov 9 2007) had the bypass done, (I would never consider it).

the main thing my doc told me was not to lift anything over 25 pounds for the first 4 weeks.

I had my srgry on 12-28 and didn't have much pain at all and luckily no gas pain I walked like every hour around my house for a few min. bulding a house is a lot of work and your energy level will propably be down for about a week or more take it easy and I don't think your suppose to do any heavy lifting for about 2 weks my doc said no more then 10lbs.

i had my surgery just 2 days ago on January 23. I am feeling pretty good and really only have pain when I go from sitting to standing or vice versa. I think that you will have to stay away from house building for awhile after your surgery (hehe) as with any operation. All the best to you. I'm so happy that I finally had my surgery!!

Regards,

Alfie

You won't feel too great for about the first 3 days. After that it's not too bad. You still won't be able to run any marathons but as long as you take it relatively easy you should be OK. When I had mine done I had to be especially careful about bending over and twisting at the waist as I could feel the pull in my muscles where the port is attached. Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
