I am freaking out!! I need advice......

Recommended Posts

I went for a fill today and they couldnt pull out any of the Fluid. He had a hard time getting the needle in my port (which is kind of normal but more difficult today). I really felt no restirciton when I went in today and have been able to eat whatever I wanted the last few weeks. My last fill was in Sept. They ended up saying I could have a small leak but there not sure. I had my surgery in Mexico and am waiting for a call back from that Dr. I was sick from about 14 days after my sept fill to two weeks ago. I wasnt eating a lot because of that so I have no idea if the restriction was gone before two weeks ago.

Has this happened to anyone else? The only think making me doubt the leak is that my friend goes to this same Dr and the first time she went (after three fills from other Dr's) he coulnt get out any liquid either. She has gone back twice and there has always been a fill.

Not sure what to think.....looking for any advice.

Shannon

Did they schedule you for another visit? I would think that they would stick you again or give you another fill to see what's going on. There is a thicker solution that they can put into your band to stop a small leak, but it sounds to me as if they were not in the port when they tried to draw the Fluid up. I think you should go in again for another fill and see how it goes.

OMG that happened to me today. He poked around for 45 mins and then put 2cc in and couldnt get a return. I dont think any went in. It was under flouro but I think he missed. He said also my port has flipped. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them? Also, I got my LB Dec 13, 2007 and this was my first attempt at a fill.:tt1:

Have you mentioned your concerns to your Doctor? would you think of switching doctors? I have never had this happen but I do feel for you!!

this is what happenned to me recently:

I had another fill done on Saturday - only mine exploded! My doc had the needle in and for some reason it gave way and I ended up with this sticky stuff all over me , Him and the wall ! but my doc does it just by feel . I have a 12cc band with 9cc in it so I'm hoping lol that I wont have to have another one for awhile lol

has anyone else's fill exploded?!?!

Wow I have never heard of it exploding. I am going a week from today back to see if I have retained any of my fill. I am not feeling restricted at all but I didn't feel a restriction when I left there. He is going to do this visit for free since I am a self pay. If I have retained the fill he will fill me tighter and everything will be good. If I havent I am headed to Mexico (back to my surgeon) and he will do a port evaluation and replace it if it needs to be done. Either way I should know something by next week.

senecamoon: My Dr said you can still miss under flor and he isnt sure what happened. He says he thinks it is possible that I do have a leak. All of my apts have been under flor. I am praying that my Fluid is still there. What did your Dr say? When do you go back in?

Shannon, this can be quite common. I lost part of my fills a few times. The first thing you should do is ask for omnipaque. Not sure how to spell it. Its a thicker solution they can fill you with that fixes small leaks. It is like fixing a flat tire. If you still lose your fills then you may have to have tubing replaced. Good luck.

My fills weren't doing anything for me for months, the docs were confused and did it under fluero. It looked like my saline goes in and then SPLOOSHES all over in my insides. So they did operation to fix a tube or port leak (they couldn't tell which). Once they were inside to fix it, they realized my port flipped a complete 180, and under the xray looked normal. But my first fill was about 6 weeks post-op, and they couldn't fill it, so my port flipped early on.

I had my first fill yesterday after having my surgery 12/26/07. The NP had a hard time getting the initial return even though my port is easily palpated and she had no trouble getting into it. She went in and out of the port several times (a strange feeling for sure!) and did have to stick me a 2nd time but she did eventually draw up 2mls already in the port and added 3 mls more. I now have 5 mls in my 10ml band. I hope it helps with the hunger I've stuck like glue to the diet and have continued to lose weight...but man o man have I been hungry! My surgeon's office has never mentioned doing fills under flouroscopy.

I had my band in September and went for 1st fill in December and they couldn`t find the port. Feburary 5 I go for a fill under Xray, just wondering what happens if its in a place they can`t get at it will it mean another op. So disappointed with my band.

Have you lost 44 lbs in approx. 1 month or was this pre-op weight loss too? The reason that I'm aksing is because I have zero restriction feeling from surgery and am starving all of the time! I lost 7 lbs the first week after surgery and haven't lost anything for the past three days. I try to stop the hunger with low call liquids but today I moved up to creamy Soups hoping they would last longer.

My 44 pounds includes about 25 lbs preop weight loss. I am substituting one meal a day with a Protein Shake, and am eating 4 oz of chicken, turkey, ham, beef, or pork with 1/2 cup to 1 cup low starch vegetables each meal (the diet from my surgeon's office). I feel a little more satisfied when I eat now that I've had my first fill and seem to be staying full longer (slightly), so it's helping take the edge off. I truly believe that I have lost weight because of my dedication to the diet and that the band hasn't been responsible for anything yet!

Mine are always done under flouro. My friend had the same problem...she had 3 fills and went for the fourth and he couldnt get any Fluid out and she has always retained hers since. I am hoping for that.

I have a call in to ask about the omnipaque to see if they can use that. We will see. I will post tomorrow or wed morning and let you know what happens tomorrow.

I had a Xray today and after a few attempts to find the band and a few trying to fill which was most unconfortable it was discovered the port is back to front. I now have to go in hospital to have it put right. This means another 6 weeks delay. After nearly 6 months I still have no restriction and never had a fill.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
