Hi, thought I'd check in on everyone. I've been doing lousy on my weight loss. Figured today would be a good day to start an excersize routine and food journal.

hi, this is bjane. My surgery is scheduled this coming thursday, June 5. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I see my surgeons assistant tomorrow for my final check before surgery. My questions are mostly about how to get my meds down right after surgery. I sure hope someone will give me ideas about that. Please keep me in your thoughts as I am struggling not to let this nervous thing get out of hand. I want this so badly and I know that it isn't easy but I'm willing to try.:)

Hi Bjane: I had the same worry before my surgery in October. But I worried for nothing. I had no problem taking my pills and I take four a day, so don't worry. If you feel you want to cut them just buy a pill cutter, but I didn't have to. Good Luck

I would suggest buying a pillcutter that crushes the pills. the crushed pill will go thru the pouch directly to the stomach protecting the pouch from becoming irritated.

The other thing to check on is which pills can be cut or crushed. Go to the pharmacist and ask them if there is an alternatre liquid or chewable pill.

I was told when I had my surgery not to swallow pills whole for at least six weeks because the doctor did not want the medication to be sitting in the pouch for any length of time.

I take 13 pills a day. Some I have switched to liquid or chewable I checked with the pharmacist to see which ones could be crushed and some need to be cut but all will be ok. ou can just call your pharmacy. Good luck. Before you know it, you'll wonder why you worried.

Hi Bjane,

I just want to say Hi as I am almost your age(62) and due to have surgery on Friday 6th.

I am fluctuating wildly between having the op. and pulling out.

I am all over the place...maybe it's nerves, but it's more in my head than my stomach.

Good luck to you on thursday and afterwards.:lol::tongue:

damienne, thanks for your well wishes. I also am nervous but excited. I've worked hard to get to this point and I also hope that my decision is right and I think it is. My boss told me today to look at this as the "first day of the rest of your life" and I want to feel better. (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.)

Hi Ya'll & special welcome to the new people,

It feels like I'm one of the new people being that I have not been Banded yet. I'm still waiting.

Going to the next support group meeting this coming Tuesday (06-10) night at 7:00 PM at CMMC in Jackson, MS. "MAYBE" I'll find out something new by than. I know that CMMC is very close to being "OK'd" any day now, but the unknown is frustrating. My name is suppose to be close to the top of the list, but will have to check to make sure it's still there.

Glad everyone else is doing well or at least hanging tough while adjusting to the Band and the new you.

Don

Hi all, I'm still around but haven't been able to sit long enough to post. I've been having some very dreadful back pain. Almost back to normal now. I'm starting PT next week. I hope you are all well and enjoying your summer.

Hi, this is bjane. It's done! My surgery was yesterday at 12:00 Noon and we were home about 7:30 last night. I did well with the surgery--my surgeon had an emergency and was about 1 1/2 hours behind so I had a little extra time to be nervous. I'm having gas pains today but I'm walking and taking GasX and I'm also just a little nauseous. I'm trying to pay attention to getting enough liquids. This forum has been very informative to me and to all that are still in the planning stage, read! read! Wish me luck, everyone.:tongue2:

I was gone out of town to see my grandson play T- ball for a little while, and just wanted to say hello. I am still waiting for insurance approval, and hope to hear soon. The weight clinic sent my records for insurance approval late last week, and I hope to hear this week. I went to my first support group meeting, and found that somewhat helpful. Many people there had bypass - not lap band. I meet a friend there I have not seen in a while, and she lost 67 pounds since December. Wow!

Hi: glad you are seeking out a support group but I hope you remember that gastric bypass patients have different issues. I went to a gastric bypass support group and I found I really didn't have the same issues. Their weight loss is fantastic whereas mine was slow and steady and still is. I found myself wishing I would lose weight faster and it was getting me down. Silly me but I did feel that way and finally dropped out. I now go to a meeting for gastric band patients. I hope you can find a group that has the band

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
