Starting Atkins induction Diet Anyone want to join me????

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm going to plan on starting induction again Friday. I really wasn't prepared the first time around, I had already bought groceries and didn't buy enough low carb stuff. We live on one income and I can't really buy groceries again until payday, which is Friday. So, this time I'll buy enough low carb groceries.

Okay, do you guys think dry roasted edamame would be okay to eat? They seems to be pretty low carb and high in Protein. Here the nutritional information Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame is a perfectly roasted and lightly salted green soybean.: SnackAisle.com -- Your Online Source for All Natural Snacks

I'm so glad you are hanging with it!! If I can muster up the willpower I will do a third week so that you are not doing week 2 alone.

As far as the edamame, I am so not good at counting carbs, so I am not a good person to ask. I have never had edamame, but it looks like something I would love to try.

Edamame is soooo good. I've never had it dry roasted before, but I've heard people rave about how good it is, so I think I might give it a try. I usually count by net carbs, so I think it might be okay. I'm also going to get some lump crab meat. It is expensive, but I want to start trying different things so I don't get bored with my food. I've had crab in salads before and I really liked it.

Thanks Renewedhope for saying you would stay on this longer for me, but you don't have to. I found some tuna in my pantry, so I actually was able to start today. So far, I've had a low carb slim fast and a small can of tuna with some mayo. I'll be able to find something for dinner that's low carb. I'll probably be eating tuna until Friday, lol:lol:.

losing, I'm with you. I would really like to stick with Atkins after the induction. In the past I have found that when I get off of the induction part I can't stay on the plan. It's like I can't handle too much freedom. I know that is pitiful. This time I would really like to follow the diet from now on. I know it is works well for me.

A break one day a week sounds great to me too. I probably won't start that until after the induction phase, but that will really help to keep on it long term.

Today I ate the following

B - Atkins shake

A break one day a week sounds great to me too. I probably won't start that until after the induction phase, but that will really help to keep on it long term.

Today I ate the following

B - Atkins shake

L - tuna with egg, mayo, and onion

S - 1 chicken strip with the breading removed

D - topping off of 2 pieces of homemade pizza (venison, cheese, very, very little pizza sauce)

I ate a little more processed food than I like today, but we went to piano lessons and I was so hungry, so a chicken strip was the best choice I could muster up!!

BTW, My kiddos are much better today!!!

Hope everyone is doing well! I had an off day today, don't know if it's the stress I've been under or what but I couldn't get much to stay down today. Went to a restaurant for the first time in quite awhile and ended up making a run for the bathroom after attempting to eat an omlette ... up it came! Then earlier this evening I purchased a roasted chicken at the grocery store and tried having some for dinner, it also did an immediate u-turn.

I did manage to find those Atkins shakes today, I tried the Caramel Latte and it is GOOD! Also bought the Mocha, will try it tomorrow ... hopefully tomorrow is a better day :frown:

Renewed, you look wonderful!!!

Ok guys, I came up with a new tuna recipe. I'm eating it as we speak. I posted it in the recipe forum but I thought I would share it with you all. I'm trying to get some variety in my tuna and this recipe reminds me of Tuna Helper without the noodles. It's nothing fancy, but it adds a little variety to it.

Cheesy Tuna

Ingredients:

1 small can of tuna in Water, drained well

1 Tbsp. sour cream

2 Tbsp. milk

1/4 cup shredded cheese (whatever kind you prefer)

Put milk, sour cream, and shredded cheese in a small microwavable bowl and microwave for about 1 to 1&1/2 minutes. Stir until creamy. If it's too thick add a splash more milk, if it's too thin add a little more cheese. Mix in tuna well and enjoy!

You could also add some dry seasonings or spices to it if you want, but I like it plain.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
