Nymphs' Valentines Day Challenge Week 2 (1/17/08)

LONGHORN: For making your own juice, I've read that adding a small apple will help the flavor of juices made with veggies.

Try searching online for juicer receipes.

Great idea for getting your veggies in.

I've been reading about everyone in the other thread, so nice to get to know you all better.

Thanks, shortgal! I've printed off dozens of recipes and can't wait to try them. The juicer makes it pretty easy.

Yesterday I had apple/carrot/celery juice and loved it! Mr. Longhorn went to the store and bought carrots, celery, cabbage, spinach, cucumbers, apples, oranges, grapes, and pineapple to get me started. I notice a lot of recipes call for beets so we'll get some of those next time. There's a year-round Farmer's Market on Saturdays that I want to start going to for fresh, locally-grown produce. I've never been excited about produce before! :girl_hug:

SkinnyJill: You found it! Thursday there'll be a week 3 Thread!

I doubt I'm going to be happy by Thurs tho' b/c this fill did not give me restriction. I don't think the scale will go down for me this week.

This waiting for the first real good restriction is very frustrating!

I feel like time is just being wasted until then.

November Ladies! I am freaking out today! I just had a dentisit appt, I mentioned my son was getting married and both the hygienst and the receptionist asked if I had my dress yet!!!

I said I was planning on waiting until July and they looked at me like I was crazy. Is that too late to go shopping? If I go too early, what size will I be when I buy vs what size by the wedding? I was trying to wait as late as possible so I could be as low as I could get. I know I won't reach goal by the wedding.

Oh and neither one of them mentioned or seemed to notice I had lost some weight!

OMG, I am freaking out. Buying clothes is just the worst thing in the world for me... 5 feet tall and fat does not go well with fancy dress shopping. Now add NO RESTRICTION yet.

Oh yeah BTW, the brides's mother is thin and beautiful.

Freaking out and worse, I still can't get motivated to work out. What is wrong with me?

liquids for me today for sure!

If you go to a dress shop where you have to order a dress, they usually require that you place your order 2-3 months before the event. They will take your measurements and order the dress according to what your largest measurement is. When the dress comes in, they will usually do a series of fittings to do alterations, the last one usually 2 weeks before you wear it.

Even if you buy a dress off the rack in July, you can always have alterations done on it. Most stylists suggest that all clothing that you purchase should be altered to your own body for the most flattering fit anyway.

I don't think you should worry too much! You have plenty of time to both lose weight and find a beautiful dress. Also, please don't fret about what the bride's mother looks like. Just focus on looking radiant and elegant, and don't try to out-do her. That day is all about the love between your son and his new bride. Just enjoy it! It will be a special day and you will be glowing from happiness no matter what you have on!

Thanks Trixie, I was hoping not to order from a bridal shop because they want it ordered so far in advance.

I would never try to compete with the mother of the bride (not that I could) but everyone seems to compare the mothers. She's a very nice lady and we get along great, I don't want to out do her, I just want to look my personal best and I'm worried I'm running out of time.

I atttended the first WLS seminar almost a year ago, but got the run around from ins, so surgery didn;t happen until Nov and then I was self pay.

At my height, unless I can get close or just under 160, finding a flattering dress is going to be hard. I have 35-40 pounds to go and I'd still be 20 lbs from goal.

I hope I get restriction soon!

Thanks so much for your support.

shortgal:

Both of my twin daughters got married last spring, one in late February and one in mid-April. I didn't get my dress for the first wedding until January. I got it on sale from Nordstroms, ordered online. In fact, I ordered four dresses, two colors, two sizes, and took the other three back to the store, no charge. I ordered the second dress from Penneys, also online. I only got one and it fit fine. The first wedding was formal, the second one much more casual.

My point is that there is plenty of time to get a dress and it doesn't even have to be expensive. Both of my dresses were about $80 and they were each perfect for the occasion. How do I know? Because my daughters loved them and that's all that mattered to me. The mother of the first groom is a lovely, petite, quiet Chinese lady. The mother of the second groom is a buxom, affectionate, talkative Israeli lady. I'm a large, blonde, vivacious Texan lady. If comparisons were made, it wasn't because of what we were wearing!

If you order a dress now, I guarantee you'll have to pay for alterations later. I know you don't think so now but when you get restriction, the weight is going to come off! If you wait until later, it could really affect the style of dress you choose. You may still need alterations but they can be done. My daughter had her sister's unworn wedding dress remade and she didn't even take it into the bridal shop until January for her February wedding. And there are plenty of other places that do alterations.

This is the first wedding, me with the bride:

This is the second wedding with the above bride's husband:

47b7d934b3127cce872486ce181200000025108AbtGTRqzbs-

I love both of those dresses and will probably get them altered so that I can still wear them after I lose weight! :)

Longhorn, you look so beautiful in both of those dresses. Our daughter is 27 and we have a son 23. Neither one has any intrest in marriage. And I want to be a grandparent way more than they want to be parents.

Longhorn, You (and your daughter) look beautiful and tall!

Nothing looks frumpier than fat and short (me).

When my daughter got married five years ago, my dress was from penney's and I had it altered to fit me well. We had a local wedding dress maker ( she was so good) make the bridesmaids dresses and she altered my dress. Lots of friends have used her too and she was going to be my ace in the hole.... until she moved, when her daughter got married. Nobody knows where she is now.

I always look terrible in every photo from every wedding or event and for once I would just like to look good! Unlike some people, I carry a lot of weight in my face (and my belly).

Anyway, I think my recent "down, panicky" state is hormonal. I stopped using my hormonal patch right before surgery and haven't put it back on and this week, the hot flashes have come back with a vengence.

Plus sizes are great for TALL people, but trust me, most don't work on shorties, like me. That's why I'm so desperate to get down to regular sizes.

I have my head on straight today and if the next fill doesn't restrict me, then I'll get another fill sooner.

Thanks for the boost (and the pics). I love your hair up!

Thanks, Teresajo and shortgal! Y'all are so sweet! I felt good in both dresses but I also felt "full-figured," at the very least!

I have an unmarried daughter and an unmarried son, in addition to the twins, so I still have a chance to be the svelte mother of the bride and mother of the groom. I suspect grandchildren will come in the next year or two, based on what our daughters are saying.

The right dress is out there, shortgal, and you'll look stunning in it!

Thanks and don't even get me going about the grandchildren issue! LOL.

My daughter has been married 5 1/2 years and seems to have no interest in having children. I try to keep my mouth shut about talking about wanting granchildren because I know they have to raise them, not me, but lots of my friends are now having grandchildren and I feel kind of left out.

I think I might have to wait for my son and I'm sure that's a few years away.

I'm going to relax about the dress and continue to believe that waiting until July to purchase will be ok.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
